Thomann shipping stress!

So I've just ordered my Kramer SM-1 (White/Duncans) from Thomann.

I bought a case for the guitar to be shipped in and also bought several small things that will fit in the case too.
I did give them instructions, on payment, to please fit all accessories into the case with the guitar so that only one parcel is shipped to ensure that everything arrives together.

Today I see that my order has left has as two separate parcels with, get this, the guitar and accessories in one parcel and the case as another by itself. Wtf?!

Now I'm stressing coz my guitar is coming from Germany in a cardboard box or something ☹

So now please tell me that you've all had many guitars shipped in boxes that arrived in perfect condition, anyone??!

What makes me angry is that I initially wanted to buy the Alluminium flight case for safe shipping, but had a cheaper case which had more space for the smalls, as the flight case is chock-a-block with foam, only to find out that they didn't even put the guitar in the case at all >☹

I've yet to give Thomann a piece of my mind, but apparently they don't understand English much.

Look ,good luck to you,lets hope your stuff arrive safe and in order,on 2 occasions i,ve ordered new goods and it arrived with damage,not lekker.....

Good news - my two, in cardboard boxes arrived safe today :woohoo: More to come soon, but all should be okay.

I think giving them (or any online shop for that matter) detailed packing instructions is like spitting in the rain - too many channels to go through from the guy that gets the online notification in an office to the guy who gets it all ready for shipping in some warehouse somewhere

I believe they use DHL, so let's hope they are careful with it. Shipping a guitar in a box is risky, so I would assume they pack it REALLY well.
Should something happen, your order is insured (in their FAQ's they say all parcels are insured).
Sit tight and hope for the best.

Yip, there's always the guarantee. But mine were well padded, well protected in a cardboard box inside a thicker cardboard box.

Ah, I must have been typing when you were. I'm glad you got them safely. How long did it take? I am considering ordering a pricey acoustic from them.

Ordered last Tuesday night I think it was - very impressed. But then I did have a HUGE hand from Lance otherwise probably would have been only the end of next week best case - still, thats not too long a wait

Sounds like what happens when you ask for "no garnish", just asking for trouble!

I just don't understand how if you buy a guitar and a case together, they fail to realise that you'd actually prefer the case to be used for it's purpose you know?

I thought the German's were innovative? :-\

Yeah, I hear you and it is a stress, but sure that everything will be cool - will you be using the case when it gets here or was it just for the shipping purposes?

yr guitar should be fine ....shipping cpmpanies know how t odeal with em ...so dont stress .... remember the majority of guitars imported into za are in cardboard boxes anyway

Yeah it was just for shipping! Luckily the case was less than R400 though. It looks like a Thomann branded Gator case, identical. If I had known that the case was going to be shipped seperately, I would of went with the flight case I originally wanted, it's like a guitar-safe if you bolt it to the wall =D

If the Thormann case is lighter than my Casket case, I might keep it. Otherwise expect to see it on Gumtree for R600 ?

I see that Thomann guarantee that everything is shipped in the original factory packaging. Now that's a good thing because it gives you some confidence that the new item you bought really is new.

But here's the thing: If they unwrap the case you ordered, then take the guitar out of it's wrapping and put it in the case then they've broken their own promise.

Yeah... I know you asked them to do it, but it's probably more trouble for them than it's worth. Firstly because somebody somewhere will now take issue with them asking how he knows that this stuff he's just got really is new.

Secondly because they now have to have staff reading every order, seeing which customer wants what placed inside what else, having to get all those bits and pieces together, remove all the factory packing and then assemble the package rather than just take stuff off of different shelves, put a label on it and hand it over to the couriers.

To do it the way you want it would push prices up. And unless they actually lead you to believe they would take the guitar that you ordered, put it in the case that you ordered and ship it like that then I don't think you have a complaint.

The guitars I've ordered online have all been boxed and packaged really well, but you still worry hey :-[ My biggest concern everytime I have bought online has been that I get a dud ☹.Five out of seven on the guits turned out great though.

I've ordered a Takamine acoustic from eBay before. Got here in perfect condition in a factory box, I wouldn't worry too much - there's a risk.. but it's not worth breaking a leg/something over.
