Hi,
A friend of mine is busy restoring an old Banjo that he got from his dad. It's a circa 1915 Clifford Essex & co CE Special.
He needs a new skin. Is there any hope of tracking down something locally or will he need to import?

It depends on the skin size. A lot of the older banjos used a size which is no longer in common production (can't remember the details, but it's something like a 1/4" off one of the two standard sizes). You can still get them from the specialised banjo suppliers and restorers, but chances are very good you will have to import.
