SRV
I've been told this is where guitar junkies meet for support...
Hi, I'm Andre. I regestered as SRV and can not tell you why. I'm a self taught frustrated beginner who live in a smallish town in the Kalahari with a little music shop that mostly sell old tapes they couldn't get rid of before CD's came out, a few low budget Amps and some chinese toasters and kettles... I took up guitar August 2007. That was also the first time I ever held a guitar or any other music intrument for that matter..a 2nd hand cheap classical. I always knew I wanted to play, but were always to afraid of spending my hard earn weekend pocket money on something i might not be able to do. I however found that I might just have a natura feel for the guitar or music becasue even though my fingers still are dumb and I know nothing about music and scales nor do I understand guitar language I've been hearing, I've surprised myself a little of how quick it has taken me to play a few of my fayvourite songs to the T. I'm basicly a rookie with what I think might be a little talent. November 2007 I baught myself a more fancy Ovation Applause Acoustic Electric and my first projects were "Breyten se brief' and "Groentrui" from Jan Blohm. By middle Desember I could strum BSB and play Groentrui along with the CD (and made it sound pretty cool with my own twists here and there). I now can play some of my all time fayvourite tunes such as Lighting Crashes from live as wel as a few other Live songs, I mastered Black by Pearl Jam and aslo some of their other stuff. I have a fingerstyle guitarist DVD I have now finished that in little more than a month witch was aslo, apart from the songs I've learned, my introduction into picking patters and so forth, but just beginner level.
I descovered playing the guitar is the best therapy I've ever had. To be able to produce cool sounds is one of the best feelings I have ever experienced and would like to be the best guitarist I can be.
My focus is Blues, but I would also like to explore rock. My fayvourite artists include all the pioneers from the 60's/70's - Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, the stones exct...Stevie ray Vaughan, Bruce Spribsgteen, Leonard Cohen, Pearl Jam and Live to name a few. My gear inlcudes the 2nd hand classical (not sure about the name, but its ok ? the ovation Applause Acoustic Electric (which I'm sellinf if anybody is interested), my dream accoustic, a Yamaha CJ 12 Counrty Jumbo and a Fender Stratocaster Highway one which I baught from what I think is also a memeber here and the person that refered me to this site. It's especially playing and desovering electric guitar I could use some help with. I'm looking at a Marshall MG30DFX amp or Roland Cube 30X amp to start out with - any advise?
Any advise is welcome...tutorials, DVDs, cool programs you guys have used that really helped with certain aspects...basicly anything. Like I said, I don't have the luxury of instructers and no friends that shares my passion!
Cheers,
A

Hi SRV - welcome to the forum. Boy, did you come to the right place! The guys are great here and will help you regardless of your level of playing, style of music or where you are living.
The "Group sessions" mentioned by Wezz is actually the
chat room.
BTW - I'm also in a small town as are a number of others here - you're in good company.

Hey SRV - Good taste in guitarists - You might want to look out for Hal Leonard Production DVD featuring Greg Koch teaching SRV's rhythm and solo style.

Howzit, A. Welkom broer!
This is the place to be. I've prowled around in other, overseas forums, and nothing beats this one. Theres allways some dickhead on the US forums with an attitude. Over here, things are laid back.
Most importantly for us beginners - you can ask ANYTHING over here, and the guys will patiently help you out. Cheers!
