I dunno. I used to be quite into metal, but slowly but surely I got bored of it and moved on. One of the things I notice that's happened in the 10 or so years I've been out of the metal scene, is that there is this obsession with trying to sound heavier/more brootal than the next guy. To me, when I hear this kind of crap, it just makes me laugh. It's gone beyond what "heavy" used to be, and now it's nothing more than comedy. Try as I might, I just can't take this shit seriously.
In all genres of music there are some musicians/bands that stand out - IMHO neither of these bands crack it. Certainly no Metallica factor here -their (older) songs were heavy but had light and shade and expressed all types of emotion! Listening to this stuff though for any period of time has an unsettling effect on my psyche and leaves me feeling irritated - a little like the "Sadza Mix" channel Trace on DSTV. This is like 'Formula' music as far as I'm concerned, learn a bunch of scales, buy the latest fashion guitars and amps, patch everything together . Rather difficult to make out the vocals too - If you are having an anal breach birth I'd like to be able to hear all the gory details.
I am an old fart of 48 but try to keep an open mind, I love all types and genres of good guitar but this does not meet my standards, as low as they may be .
