Cubase & Reason question

Hey guys,

I'm learning as I go along, and next up: Reason.

So I'm getting it to work, and what I'm doing is to run midi tracks in cubase, linked via vst to Reason. I then save the Reason fx layout as a Reason file, as well as the cubase project.
Working. No issues.

But, it's when a day or two later I wanna fire up the project again, that the cubase midi tracks revert to "No Connection", even after opening the associated Reason file. This means relinking every channel to the applicable Reason fx every time I re-open the cubase project. What am I missing?

Do you load Reason as a VST instrument under the devices menu (F11) or do you rewire it there? If it's one of your vst instruments in your cubase project it should save everything when you save the project.

At present I am just rewiring. Will try the VST device (F11) route.

If this works, this is where you start using your different midi channels from different tracks. Because you load the whole reason as one device with many channels and Cubase should save everything as it would with any other vst. Well, mine does it, anyway. I'm still on cubase 4. Do you have the cubase tutorial DVD's? Even after years of using cubase I still learnt a hell of a lot from them. Turnkey usually stocks them.

hmmm strange.... sound buggy to me.
I have not noticed this in Cubase 6...
which version are u running?

Cubase 5, Reason 5

Are you making sure you open the Reason file first and then Cubase?

It has to be done in that order.

I am. Then Cubase errors: "Cannot use Reason. Close Reason and try again"

Reason has to be opened last to be ReWired.

I don't use Cubase, but it sounds weird. Normally the routing is saved, on other DAW's.

Interesting. Back in Reason 3 it was the opposite way round.
