Hi everyone
I am looking for anyone that has experience with a Nova system. I recently purchaced one, it is an excellent pedal although I am having trouble switching between presets.
The problem I am having is wen I switch from one preset with a lower output level to another preset that has a higher output level, I experence a loud "volume boost" just as I switch between them. In other words it doesnt transition "smoothly" or softly between one preset and another 1 with a higher output vol.
Its hard for me to explain but I hope I made sense.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thank You

Is there no setting for "patch volume?"
I don't have one yet so I can only speculate...

I don't own one but i have played around with one for about 10 days.
They are excellent multi-fx units.
I think the problem you mention is universal to most multi-fx units. The couple of ways i see around it are:
1. Set the overall volume of the loud patch same as the softer patch and then use the boost function for upping the volume/gain.
2. Use a volume pedal before the unit and use that to control overall loudness/volume. Toe down for the soft patch. Slightly backed off for the loud patch and then use the pedal to increase volume as desired.
3. Use the guitar volume - turn it down a bit for the louder patch and then use the vol knob to increase volume as desired.
Now, if you mean that the sound doesn't transition smoothly from the soft patch to the loud patch, then you're asking a bit much from the unit.
Just my 2c.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for your responses.
Yes I do have different vol levels for each preset but the problem I am having for instance is, on my cleaner presets I have set the vol higher than my hi-gain presets(to keep a constant output level), so if I switch from a hi-gain preset to a cleaner preset the "last bit" of my hi-gain sound is boosted to the level of my clean preset, which is very unpleasent.
I had a Boss gt-8 before this and I never experienced this issue, so I was just wondering if there was a solution to it.
I will try your suggestions above, I do have a vol pedal before the Nova system.
Thank You

There should be a solution for the problem. First thing to accept is that the TCE units function very differently to other units incl. Boss multi fx units. If the level settings on the Nova is anything compared with the G-System, then I suspect that you've balanced the levels wrong somewhere along the signal path. On the G-System setting your levels correctly from the beginning to the end of the signal chain is one of the most important things to get right off the bat. (Before you start tweaking patches...) You shouldn't use the boost function to set volume levels and you shouldn't have to resort to using a volume pedal or the guitar's volume either... The boost function would be the very last resort if nothing else works but technically it should only be used as a boost... (Wish I could help more but I've only spent time with the G-System...)
Best advice I could give is to ask questions on the TC Electronic forum...
All of the best! (The TCE-units are fantastic-sounding when set-up correctly!)

Thanks allot Zark
I have posted this question on the TCE forum and also contacted TCE support but no responses as yet.
Yes its an awesome sounding unit, this is the only issue I am having with it.
The only thing I set up on my signal chain is the "Input gain" of my guitar to make sure it isnt clipping. Then the vol/output level of each preset to get a constant overall volume for all my presets.
So on your G-system, does it transition smoothly between your presets with different output levels set?

See if there is a setting for "smooth switching" (or something like that - I'm also a G-sys user) and turn it off. Your changes will be more abrupt, but you won't have the volume jump.

Thanks Allan
I just googled "smooth switching" for the Nova system, couldnt find anything. But I will check on the unit itself. There is an "FX mute" function on the Nova with 2 options Hard or Soft but either option doesnt help.
The worst thing is wen I have some delay on a hi gain preset and switch to a clean preset with a higher output, the delay from the previous preset suddenly boosts to the higher vol. Its kind of hard to explain.
Now, to change presets I have to stop playing completely, mute the strings with palm and then switch patches.
I hope I can find a way around this

I don't know if the Nova system has delay and reverb that can be set to 'carry-over' after you've changed a patch (as with the G). Seems very strange to me that the volume on the delay will actually increase when changing patches! Usually the effect is supposed to just carry on (if this option is available) or end abruptly as with most other fx units... I'll see if I can't get some more info on the matter when I have the time available... (I've sold my G-System and have been thinking about getting a Nova system for the interim -until a second generation G-System is finally released...)

Thanks Zark. Yes the nova has a setting for "carrying over" reverbs and delays, its called "FX-Mute" and can be set to Hard or Soft. But that doesnt fix the issue I'm having ☹
I'm still awaiting feedback from TCE support. I was also thinking of saving my patches/settings and setting the unit back to factory default and just set it up again one step at a time to see I could have went wrong. The only thing is theres not much setup to do apart from the "Input gain" setting and the levels of each patch.

Good to know it has the FX-mute function... I'm interested to know what the TCE guys have to say... I cannot imagine the Nova-system would have such an issue that cannot be cured by changing some settings or maybe by doing a reboot and redo...
