Let's hear some of the songs that you like for featuring a good bass line? Here are two of mine:

Bob-Dubery

"Something" by the Beatles. Listen to Macca playing a bass line that almost goes against the song - but he makes it work. Also Macca's line on "Come Together".

Loads of good bass lines on the early Joe Jackson albums. Graham Mabry is a pretty good player, and the way that band played often gave the bass a major melodic role and kept the guitar in a strictly rhythm role.

Generally though, I must add, that many many Michael Jackson songs (especially his older stuff) had some really sick bass lines. Songs like Bad, Billie Jean etc

Jaco Pastorius covering Third Rock from the Sun (02:05 - 02:34), alas this is the best version I found online - but still quite cool to see him jump on the bass at the end ?
