Lately, and I'm not sure exactly when this started, Youtube has become very frustrating for me. My connection is not such that I can just watch a video and it will stream faster than it plays so I usually pause the video immediately so it can first buffer far enough ahead and then I start watching it.
But lately, Youtube will only buffer something like 45 seconds ahead and then stop. When I watch the video it will continue to buffer further ahead but pretty soon the playing slider will have caught up with the buffering slider and I'm having to stop in the middle of the video and wait for buffering again.
I've noticed that with some clips, but not all. In a minority of cases I have been able to do the old trick of clicking "pause" early on and letting the buffer fill up, but most times I can't.
It's interesting - how does your ISP or Youtube know that you're sitting on pause and not actively watching. Does the latest version of the Flash player convey that information back to Youtube?
