they say you must use a BOSS power supply so that they generate more money and also to cover their own asses because if you put another power supply into it and it blows you can't go running back to 'em....
i've used R150 power supplies from musikland and they worked fine with my boss pedals, apparently they even have R50 power supplies there, but i haven't tried those

What boss pedals you use Wezz?

Quality of PSU is very important with digital gear, which is often very fussy about stability and noise. Cheaper models may not supply the correct voltage when under load and can also throw off a lot of noise.
Manufacturer's PSUs are not always amazing quality and are admittedly expensive (partly because of the EU standards they have to meet), but not using one invalidates your warrantee (the distributor can charge for repairs, even if they are unrelated to the PSU!) . Is it worth saving a few hundred Rand by using a cheap supply and risking a pedal that may be worth a few thousand?

i've used a Boss Metalzone and a Boss ME-50....i used 1 i bought from Musikland for R150 but it broke(dam dog) and then i used a power supply from a old keyboard(i checked to see if the voltage was the same, etc) and it worked 100%....i do own a boss power supply but there's a fault right where the wire connects to the power supply, must still fix it...the boss ones retail for R250-R300

oh yes and i also used a Digitech power supply with my ME-50 (from my old dan donagon pedal) and that also worked fine

The correct supply is a BOSS PSA 230P - red sticker.
Personally, I like the Roland PSB-1U keyboard supply - all the same specs as the 230 with the added benefit of 2A/2000 mA -daisy chain that mofo and u can run as many stomps as u like - plus it's nice and quiet ! Hard to come by as a spare though !

I seem to recall there was something about older Boss supplies using 12V on the power supply that would drop down to the standard 9V when plugged in and working. The pedals would not run on 9V power supply but they would on a 9V battery.
Anyway, please note that daisy-chaining your power supply to several stomp boxes in series actually creates quite a few ground loops - not the thing to have if you want to be quiet while not playing. I use batteries and am building a 4x floating 9V power supply for this reason.

Hi Gearhead:
Do yourself a favour and get hold of one of those supplies I mentioned and TRY it - the source is quiet, and there are NO problems with signal noise or ground loops whatsoever - I think that depends what pedals you are using - and how noisy your guitar itself is normally. I can run about 8 pedals without problems.
Mojo JoJoe uses 2 of them in fact ...

why do you guys think i log onto the forum as 'gearhead'? If what I prefer and am willing to go through for my setup made any sense I would gladly use a less self-sarcastic name! The whole point of being a freak is to allow yourself to go all out on something in your spare time. During office hours I need to made a lot of sense all of the time already.

Point taken co-freak ?
