I have an Ibanez AEL10E Acoustic Electric. I bought a few years ago new from Mat's Music when they were still n Horizon Park. I just wanted an acoustic guitar, but the fact that it was electric was a bonus and I wasn't to concerned about the quality of the plugged in sound, thou it wasn't bad. After 2 years in storage I took her out re stringed her, polished her up, plugged het in and... She sounds horrible. It really sounds like there is an ocean in the guitar, the sound of the strings are way in the back drowned in an ocean of noise. So I removed the whole electronic system and mounted an electric guitar pickup inside the sound hole with your normal tone and volume mounted in the existing cavities. I loved the sound of this but because I didn't want to do anything permanent the pickup kept falling into the body of the guitar so I removed it again. Last night I put the original stuff back in just so there aren't empty holes in the guitar. But it still sounds like crap. I went online thinking that maybe I was just a noob at the time of buying it and that maybe this model just sounds bad, but all of the reviews on this guitar is great, every one seems happy with the sound.
What could be wrong and how would I go about fixing it? :'(

1) Did you try changing the battery?
2) Ibanez have electronics designed but not made by Fishman. They usually sound very good for a while before crapping out. But see (1) before you make any radical decisions.

Check Bob's recommendations,
and in addition
it could also be the under saddle pickup, either very brittle and starting to deteriorate, or the connection to the pickup that may be faulty.

Slightly off-topic but the thread title sounds like the title of a song :?

Stupid question...have you plugged the guitar into another system to make sure it is the guitar? Or plugged something else into you current amplification to make sure it is the guitars pick-up?

I tried it on my recording interface, on my guitar amp and my bass amp. Put in new batteries...
Still oceany, I guess the electronics are messed up. :'(

Get it to somebody to check it out! >☹ now!
Don't make assumptions that could cost you more than what the problem actually is. . . :-[
