If something's perfect , beautiful, and sound like heaven... why change it. Add Gibson LP, ESP as well.
Because at the time you don't know that it's perfect and needs no changes. In fact all the now classic guitars evolved constantly in real time. The Stratocaster was changing constantly year to year. Different woods, different neck constructions, pickups got hotter etc.
Back in '59 they didn't know those strats they were making were going to be classics. Come '60 they thought they could change it a bit. Same with the 50s sunburst LPs that so many folks love. Gibson didn't think they had a classic guitar on their hands. In fact they stopped making them.
