Value of '69? "Marshall Super Bass 100w" SB/A 10751

Hello all,

I've just dug out my old super bass and was wondering if anyone here could help me date and value it?

The two right hand valves were replaced in 1989, and i cant remember opening the case since. I've given it a quick dusting, but i couldn't spot a date tag.

The serial number is SB/A 10751. The amp seems to fall into the "Version 8" category on this page: http://folk.ntnu.no/roef/JTM100.html

And for anyone who's interested, i've gigged it at the Forum, Kentish Town, London. The 100 Club, Oxford Street, London. As well as Stonehenge and many festivals elsewhere.
I'll be sad to get rid of her, but i've had my fun ?

I'd say that if my eyes aren't failing me, your amp has plexiglass panels, and looking at the gut shots, it's mostly original, except for the impedance selector. Also being based in England, which has more of a market for vintage collectable gear than South Africa, you would probably be able to get a decent amount of money for that amp, although exactly how much, I have no idea. Also don't know how the Bass versions compare, value wise to the Lead amps, although I'll tell you that I prefer the tone of my 50w Bass model to the lead amps I've heard thus far.

Uhm, its actually not worth anything. Too old, ugly, and more of a paperweight now, something you will just stub your toe on.

From what ive just read, it's hardly a 'paper weight', these amps are extremely rare these days, '69 Super Bass's are from the Hendrix era, and are very sought after. I've allready been offered $2500 on another forum...

What it's worth and what you'll get for it are two very different things I'm affraid...especially in today's market. Also the fashion have shifted somewhat to smaller and lighter combo amps ☹

I have no doubt he'll get decent money for this particular amp, especially overseas, although exactly how much, I'm not sure.

Thanks, i've just emailed them now. TBH i diddn't notice this wasn't a UK based site, i was just looking for guitar forums to ask ?

I'll second you on that one Shaunf. I had a '68/9 Plexi Super Lead and a 70/1 Bass and the Bass certainly had the edge with the tone. (I still kept the Super lead and sold the Bass to our Bass player though). They were fabulous amps. For general loud use you would crack the volume to 2.25. If you set them to 4 and stood on a Tube Screamer your trousers would blow in the pressure wave of the speaker cab and your ribs would vibrate!
