These things so often go wrong - and not just in SA. You'd think by now somebody would have learned from all the failures.

2010 Mrs X-rated and I were heading to London and we had our eyes on some shiows at the Royal Festival Hall. Different system, different venue, same nonsense, The system crashed. I lost the seats I had in the basket, and by the time the thing came back on line again the seats I'd wanted were gone due to telephone reservations. In fact the Elvis Costello show that I'd reallly wanted to go to was sold out.

I fired off a snotty email to the RFH. Eventually they managed to get seats for Loudon Wainwright - but these were in the wheel chair section and only one guy could release them to me. Absolutely no chance for Elvis....

Bah! By now these systems should be more robust.

The serendipitous side to this was that because we couldn't get tickets for Costello (despite having had good seats in the basket when the system fell over) we left London a day earlier and got to see Martin Simpson in the teeming metropolis of North Boarhunt, Hampshire.

Totally opposite experience. They had no booking system at all! I had to phone the secretary of the local rec club and she promised to put two tickets aside for me. Which she did. She also told me where the cheapest good accomodation was (they'd booked Simpson and his band in there), where to get a good pub meal, and when we got there she was waiting for us with the chairman. The chairman gave us the seats he and his wife usually take. Great seats, great gig and a lovely welcome.

But yes, serious issues with the ticket system, although Computicket blames the problem on Big Concerts.

Either way, the queuing system does suck!

The queuing system would have been wonderful - if it worked. I was in the queue for 4 hours only to find out that my payment couldn't be accepted (and I'm curious to know how this can be blamed on Big Concerts). My 10 minutes passed without me having had any success. So guess what, you go back in the queue, only this time it didn't take 4 hours but 6. By the time I eventually got hold of tickets they weren't anything like the tickets I could get the first time round and I'm very cheesed off.

Any tips on how to get to Soccer City? I've used the Northgate park & ride twice and twice has it been a consummate abortion - and for this I lay the blame squarely at Big Concerts' door. Have you guys got suggestions for what I might try this time round?
