Wedding MC

Hey guys and gals,

I need a huge favour... my sister is getting married this Saturday and I am the MC for the evening. It will be my first time doing such a thing and I’m not prepared yet!! I'm looking for 2 things:

1) Tips on how to prepare (I don’t have problems speaking in public so that bit is sorted) – maybe some of the old timers out there who has done this before can give advice? ?

2) A few good jokes - must be kept clean as the in-laws are quite conservative.

Please help - I need some genius!!!

One joke which went down pretty well (I didnt tell it though, just heard it at a wedding)....

One thing , discuss the format of the evening with the wedding couple , what they intend doing and the flow of the evening ...have a couple of one liners ready and keep notes of who is going to speak next ....

MC's are there to keep the evening flowing ,introducing speakers and diseminating information regarding the toilets ,the agenda of the evening and announcing the cutting of the cake ,etc etc

get the format from yr sister and just chill ...after a few beers it gets even easier ...

and dont forget to propose a toast to the lovely bride and the hottest bridesmaid

There are many sites on the internet with vast amounts of information.

Just do a search on Wedding Jokes, etiquette (essential as you don't want to offend some people by not mentioning them etc) and a whole bunch of info on what an MC does etc etc.

As ICM has said, you basically will give information and invite people to speak. All according to how they have planned the wedding.

Good luck w/MC'ing - The guitar gents have indeed given the best advice...speak to the bride, have a few jokes ready and a beer or two and it's a a whole bunch of fun. I've performed 4xBest man's duties and the jokes and beer were critical - telling everyone about the bride's tequila nightmare was a epic failure... ?

I'm quoting ICM because I think you could do well reading it again. He makes a very good point that the MC is really there to keep the evening flowing. Lots of people think that the job of the MC is to tell jokes, there's nothing worse. Rather make sure that you make the guests feel at home and that the evening flows nicely. Telling jokes come a distant second to this task.

I'll send you a PM with some notes from a recent wedding where I had to do the MC'ing.
