MIA Tele. If I want to sound good, look good with no hassle she's the one...
I never told the story of mine and now it's time...
I lived in South Korea for a few years working as an English Teacher, I had lots of bucks and no expenses. On one of my explorations of Seoul I came across the Nagwon Instrument market, I had no intensions of buying anything. Now imagine a standard sized South African Macro, split up into hundreds of smaller boothes, each owned by a supplier and then all the little walk ways are filled up with rows and rows of guitars, anything form your entry level Squires to top of the line Gretches and stuff. I got lost in this place for a whole day just playing on anything and everything, still not planning on buying anything. Then my wonderful wife said the following words that every man want's to hear: ' Baby, we will never have so much money lying around in our lives again, If you ever wanted your dream guitar, now is the time to buy it.' I knew what I wanted, I just had to find it. I wanted a blond 52' Tele. I found a guy that took me to one, an original one. I nearly crapped my pants when I saw the price tag on it. I was a bit sad cause this is what I wanted, and now I have to find something else. Next on my list was a Thinline , but in this giant place there were none! My friendly Korean helper then told me he knows a guy that sometimes have good second hand stuff and we walked down to his little shop. I told him I want a Thinline, he told me I was nuts because it is made in Mexico ('Mexico BAD!, American Good!). Then I said I wanted a 52' Telecaster. He said; 'leisew, leisew!, I got second hand one.' He ran off to his store room and brought out this baby. Ah, re issue! It was love at first sight. She was dirty and had no stings on. I told the guy to string her up I'm taking it! An hour later I picked her up, set up, re stringed and good to go. The guy was nice enough to track the serial for me as well just to prove he's not shitting me. I plugged her in and my patient wife had to sit around while I lost myself for a while. She later asked me why this is the one and I explained to her that there is something about the simplicity of it that gets me going and also it is blond, blond is my favorite color (just like my wife). Anyway, after a few months I got home from the east, got all my other guitars out, but there was just no contest. I felt bad for them, I loved them all, but not in the same way. when I play the others I stick them into my ME70 and add effects and go mad, but with this baby, it's always straight into my Marshall. At full gain I get enough overdrive on the bridge pickup and it's clean enough on the neck pickup. I really love this guitar and if there is ever a fire in my house I'll grab my wife with one hand and my tele with the other, and hopefully the dog (wich is also blond)will run out after us.
