Its called a swirl finish. Absolutely gorgeous! They do it with paint in fact... Need very deep pockets to get your hands on a swirl reissue Universe...

Looking forward to seeing more GO-TO guitar pics!

Yeah, I saw a Youtube video somewhere of the technique being applied. It's pretty cool.

All musicians have deep pockets,....... prevents them from reaching the little money they got it there to easily. ???

Lovely! But I'm going to have to call you out though. I'm having a hard time believing that BOTH guitars are your current GO-TO guitars. You are going to have to pick one. Which is it?

Here's my current go to aXe... ?

Used it for the August Challenge and it is my Drop C and D standard go to. Had it setup with Slyd at the aXe Workshop and man it plays great.

It's all fixed up now from when I got it. This thread shows some pics before...

Dewald, it literally changes on a day to day basis. Currently though, the strat is getting more attention as it's just been (being) set up and I've been playing just the Gibbo for the past 3 weeks.

Thanks Arjun. I'm almost completely happy with it - got some very low wound pups in there so it's very bright, but that's what the treble control is for. Once I've got my amp dialed in it sounds great, strong lows and a full detailed high end. However I am struggling to get a smooth, watery tone (for lack of a better word). I know a lot of it is down to the hands, but it's nowhere near as easy to get on here as on the LP. Going to have to fiddle with tone caps I rate!!!

Got a custom wound set in.. A5 all round, 6.1k in the neck, 5.8k in the middle and 6.8k in the bridge. Also got a hot tap on the middle that boosts it to 7.5k or so. It's NOT rwrp so the in between positions sound a bit nicer, was actually thinking of posting a clip earlier. Might still! I'm actually waiting on David Allen to wind me a custom set, but we've not managed to have time and funds in unison. Wanting a 5/3 split, 6.1k neck, 6.1k with a hot tap up to 8k in the middle and 6.8k bridge - that'll make the treble a bit smoother while keeping the detail.

Excuse him for talking - he's got some wonderful tones during this concert, it's the only Mayer stuff I keep in my car.
