Euro 2012 Anyone

deefstes

So, is anyone else looking forward to Euro 2012 like I am? I always enjoy the Euro Championship as it gives me a chance to see some different football to the rather bland style of English Premiership football.

I think there are a few good teams in there this year and I'll keep an eye on the Netherlands, Spain, Germany and England. I don't have the highest expectations of England but I'll check them out nevertheless. Also, I don't think we should write off France, they look much better than they were in the World Cup. I always enjoy seeing the Czech Republic as well and, if I feel I can stomach some award winning acting, I might even watch an Italy game or two.

But all in all, I'm just looking forward to 3 weeks of real lekker soccer. As always, I've created a Fantasy team for myself. How about you guys? Have anyone created a fantasy team? I've created a GFSA league so feel free to join so that I can have the pleasure of kicking your butt. To join the league, go to this page, click on "Join a League", select the "Private League" option and enter this code:

If you haven't created a team yet, you'll have to do that first. Go do it now, it's fun. Click here.

Deutschland über alles

Yup, I think Germany has a very strong team with the likes of Mesut Oezil, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Muller, Lukas Podolski, Miroslav Klose. Also, don't forget their rock steady goalie, Manuel Neuer! They're in a very tough group though, undoubtedly the toughest of all the groups - with Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark.

What I like about Germany is their pinpoint precision and "jealousy" with the ball. They go to great pains to maintain possession which is something that I find frustrating with Premiership football (and English football in general). They seem to play with an attitude that they can lose possesion, it won't take long before the opposing team loses possession again. Germany and Spain are the exact opposite of that.

For what it's worth, I'd nail my colours to Spain though. They seem to have hit on an unbreakable style, perhaps not the most flamboyant, but unbreakable.

MikeM

Don't forget Mats Hummels, Sami Khedira, Mario Gomez and Phillip Lahm.

They have HUGE potential this year. Lets just hope they're able to show that potential!

Also got my money on Germany - were one of the best footballing teams in 2010. Then they had a young side who have now matured and played together more. Wouldnt mind if they win it. Just not Spain...

Usually England go into tournaments thinking they'll win them - now nobody expects anything so I think they might actually do quite well. A lot hinges on the France game - if they get thumped its tickets, but a draw would be a good result.

But looking forward to it big time - who cannot love two games of footy a day? :goodtimes:

GaryMac

Same as the World Cup.

ABE

Anyone but Engerlund.

Just dont go streaking ahead of me by like 20 or 30 points in the first week otherwise I'll give up and stop changing my team (that will be my official excuse and I am sticking to it).

Oh why not just make Wii Curling the next big thing? USB broom...

ActionArnie

You guys failed to mention wonderkid Mario Gotze .... signed him for Arsenal in FM2012, he's an absolute beast ?

I'm keen to see England do well under Woy (at the Euwo's). I do like the German side too, and the Dutch for that matter.

So any other takers for this fantasy league? You have until 18:45 today to submit your team and join the league. Go on!

I hope you're not referring to the oke who came alone with Casillas twice in the 2010 final, but failed to score? The man whose acting is so good that he himself does not even know whether or not he was fouled? The same guy who missed a penalty in this year's Champions League final?
We actually have better strikers (van der Vaart, van Persie, Kuyt, Huntelaar) but for some reason Robben attracts a lot of attention from defenders...

Poland 1 - 1 Greece

Mediocre game >☹

Meant van Persie ? Robben looked woeful in the CL final
