PostmanPot Hi again So I'm looking for an entry-level sound card to go with the KRK Rokits as mentioned in this thread: http://www.guitarforum.co.za/recordings/behringer-truth-b2030as-vs-krk-rokit-6s/msg17460/#new. I have found an M-Audio Audiophile USB, secondhand, which seems to be better than any external sound card around R1000 - R1500. Info can be found here: http://cgi.ebay.com/M-AUDIO-AUDIOPHILE-USB-AUDIO-MIDI-INTERFACE-B-STK-SALE_W0QQitemZ270301435322QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item270301435322&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318. So, what do you guys think? Apologies again if posted i nthe wrong section, learning my way around here ;>
AlanRatcliffe Hi again PP The M-Audio stuff is very good - hard to go wrong with it. However, just a few points: By the time you've factored in shipping (approx $40) and duties, exchange rate, etc. are you going to save buying from eBay? My calculations put it at about R1800 at current exchange rate. This is a US unit, so the power supply may be for 110V. You might have to factor in the price of a decent 220V PSU. If you are going to be using a microphone for voice or other recording, the Audiophile does not have a built in mic preamp, so you would need a mixer or standalone mic preamp. If you want a mic pre built in, rather look at units like the M-Audio Fasttrack (a bit cheaper too).
PostmanPot Thanks for the reply, Alan. Nope, I've found it secondhand in Cape Town. Wouldn't risk importing with our postage system! >☹ Will have a look at the M-Audio Fasttrack too. Will be using the midi ports for a midi controller one day soon, not too sure on a mic preamp at this stage (mainly electronic/housey stuff etc.)
Neps Alan you are a genius!!! ? I totaly forgot thos American do everything diffrent, from driving on the wrong side of the road to not using our Voltage!!
AlanRatcliffe It's not something you forget once you see the results of someone importing an expensive piece of studio gear to save some money then proceeding to plug it in to the local voltage without a stepdown X-former ?
jakjak Hi Postmanpot Glad to see you came over from mybroadband.co.za. See what i mean, these guys have much more knowledge. ? ?
