ok.. So I'm really into cars. I was on the point of buying a supra. Had the money and eveyrhting. Just had to say, Hey ship it! But I got talked out of it and so I faded a bit out of the drag racing scene. After a while I bought a brand new 2008 Ford Bantam and desided to keep it stock. A little bug started bitting and I only did small things. decat, 252 cam(sohc) 57mm exhasut and freeflow. I was on my way to the voeltrekker monument and i heard a golf 3's DV(Dump valve.. and for extreme noobs.. the things that goes ttttttssss on a tubro car). And I was hooked! It was like a bad drug! I just had to turbo the Bantam. It was a 1.6i... Notice I said it WAS a 1.6i. So I talked around and desided I'm going to turbo it. But I just thought that 120kw on the wheels was just not enough.. So I'm doing a... 2L Mazda EGI 16v conversion. T61 turbo Dictator Management. Scat conrods(hold 800hp) Custom built side shafts. Mazda 626 turbo gearbox. Large Intercooler. and a lot of other things. I wish I could see your face when you read the next line.. Its only costing me R50 000.... What can the new Bantam do... 0-100 in 4-5 seconds. 0-200 in under 20 seconds. 400m potensial of 12.0s(yeah i know this for a fact) Can boost 1.2 bar on stock pistons and make 230kw+ on the wheels. Later I'll get a set of Wiseco Pistons for R5000 and the rings( yeah sold seperatly!) for R2500. then I can start boosting 2 bar+ and make 300kw+ on the wheels. I'm getting my baby back end November! I cant wait! just a little fun fact... the fastest street legal 4 cylinder front wheel drive turbo only bantam is 11.5s on the 400m. With wiseco's I can do better. So the only thing in my way of owning the fatsest Bantam in SA is the damn pistons a slicks. A set of M/T slics, front runners and rims go for...... wait for it...... R35 000!!! Crazy! Never heard of anyone replacing leaf springs with coils, and I doubt this would be easy, mainly due to the top shock mounts. The only half-tonner that runs coils is the Corsa C utility.

lol! I just had a look at your MX6. We should have a little drag! lol! I also dont think it will be an easy job to go coil. But it sure is better than kaka leaf springs. Correct me if I'm wrong here... Leafe springs are mainly for high load on the rear.. why does the corsa have coils.

It's due to a few factors. Mainly production costs and the fact that it's less intrusive in the load bin. The Corsa C may use coil spring but its actually got a load rating of 750kg and not 500 like the Bantam, Champ and the like.
They used coils to provide a more sedan like feel to the drive. It worked up to a point but without a sport coil kit in the tail got twitchy around fast bends.

ah ok! now I know this is not your fav question.. But its one that has given me sleepless nights...

How do i get my bantam on that elusive cover. Its not lacking anything on the performance I'm sure. Interior is stock. Just racing seats and harnes. Exterior is stock exept for the mags.

It need to be something special. Ideally custom body, paint, custom interior and motor work. Not all of those are essential but it makes it's chances better. Unfortunately we'll never put a Bantam on the cover that only has wheels and motor work - it's not enough to entice people to buy the magazine.

Even just for a feature, it's going to need a lot more than just the motor swap and conversion.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but take Neeresh for example. Corsa B with body kit, 7 colour flip paint, lambo doors, 2.0 16v conversion, full interior retrim with custom door cards and then some insane dB numbers to boot... and he still hasn't been featured.

ah ok. So its gonna take a lot of time and money to get there. But I'll do it. For now I'll just stick to the back of the mag. lol! Any way. Thanks for the Q&A Session. Talk again later

What escapes me is why someone who spends a vintage guitar / amp to have a fast car would want it to be a Bantam? It's to me like putting P90s in your starter pack plywood LP.

I wanted to keep the Bantan stock. But then the bug bit me! And how many Bantams do you know of that had this conversion. I dont want something that everybody has. Like a Golf!
