Thanks for the link KayDub
I have checked out that site before yes... Im pretty sure all those prices on the monitors there are per speaker.... Damn but those dynaudios look sexy hey!
Im also mildly interested in those tannoy reveals they look cool and have had some fair reviews... anyone had experience with them??
Dave
greetings
The Tannoy Reveals are nice! Lower price bracket too. I looked at them before I found the deal for my V6's.

So what im thinking is that im gonna get the HS50's today, and then I might get the VXT8 as well, so i have an awesome big bass banger and reference mix tool...
My room is not huge at 4x3m, im worried that an 8 inch might be a bit overkill, will bass frequencies become more of a problem??
greetings
Is your room treated?
(by the way, have you ever seen the VXT8's - they are huge)
DrGonzo
Not 100% treated, but i got some corner traps and panels im putting up tomorrow.
yeah thats what im worried about, they are probably massive hey!
greetings
They are. Depends if you want to put them on a desk or on stands.

So i went in to get the HS50's and then I AB'd them against the Yamaha MSP5 and the MSP5 sounded way clearer to me and actually had some bass response... and bonus they were only a bit more than the HS50's... so it was a no brainer...
Did a mix session last night and it was interesting, they will take a bit of getting used to, but i reckon they are fantastic reference monitors.
Im still gassing for a high end pair later on in the year..., but i reckon i will prob end up keeping these as a B reference monitors... as i reckon them to be good mixing tool once i learn how to use them! ?
greetings
Great ?
The MSP's are nice. Thought they were being discontinued, so that's why I didn't suggest them.

So... I got some unexpected money in and I'm feeling super slutty so I have ordered a pair of these:
The CMS50... I really just wanted only one high(ish)-end pair of monitors that i can get to trust and that also sound great and these seemed to fit the bill. I did a listening test of the tiny CMS40 series on saturday and was incredibly impressed by the clarity, depth and bass response of that tiny monitor.
I can only imagine the CMS50 will be a step-up in that regard! the CMS65 are just way out of budget so I have ordered the CMS50 and will spend the next year or so saving up to get the beautiful matching sub! (this could even expand itself into a 5.1 system in the future 8))
Its a pity about the Yammies, they are really great and half the price, but I have a slight addiction and problem with gear when i always feel i could have better without really giving it a chance. Shame on me :?
So anyone keen then on taking over the brand new pair of Yamaha MSP5's please PM me i will give you a great deal and I have no doubt that they are a great and accurate system!

Allriiiiight. Yeah you're going to like the CMS50, they're a class act for sure. We can compare notes once you've worn them in a little!

hehe yeah im stoked, i should have them by the end of the week! Yep, I have heard that they do need a decent break in period until they perform accurately... i think that polyglass woofer is super stiff and needs to be pushed a bit to loosen up.
did you find this with yours?
method1
hey congrats on the focals, good choice (but you know I'm a fanboy)
they do need a decent break in period, anywhere from 20-200 hours, I left mine running music overnight for several days when I first got them, they sound good to begin with and then they sound even better ?

/dunno. I plugged them in -> they generated sounds, good sounding sounds -> I went back to making music. ?
Couldn't tell you if they sound different now than at first, too subtle a change if any and too long ago.

Well, I went through to Music Connection to pick up the vocals this afternoon, got home set them up, looked at them for a while (they real pretty) and put on some tunes...
All i can say i WOW, ? these things sound unbelievably awesome! Stereo imaging and clarity is phenomenal... bass is way better than i was expecting, the shitty mix i did recently sounds, well, just as shitty but i immediately have a picture on what to do it. and they not even broken in yet!
I guess we can say one happy customer and my monitor GAS is henceforth cured! 8)
BMU
Yep they sound good, no doubt about that. I remember my first impression was of transparency, as if the music was spontaneously appearing in mid-air somehow.
Cool man!!

There is a reason Focal has their slogan as "the spirit of sound". ?
I have their Polyglass 3ways in my car... i wouldnt change them except to go up to the KRX3's... at 3 times the price! They are awesome awesome speakers though!
When i have the cash, i'll have Focal home audio in my house! Im a Focal freak!! ?
DrGonzo
Well yep, instant fan boy here!
Would love to have a Focal 5.1 home hifi/home entertainment setup.

Hey guys so just an update,
I sent the Focal's back to music connection and got an upgrade to the Focal CMS 65...
It was a tough and stressful decision cause the 50's were awesome, but i thought to rather invest in a larger pair for more fuller range response that i would probably eventually upgrade to in the future.
A bit of a price sting, but now i have really AWESOME monitors that i can rely on for very many years to come! ? ?
