Hey guys ? So after a brief stint with a loaned pair (for like a month, lucky me!) of Adam a5x monitors, I have decided to go back to the drawing board......

I think in the price range you're looking at you've made a good choice, obviously it's always better to check them out in your own room if possible.

It's a real pity these aren't available here, they look very promising:

Referring to the above, I must say that Yamaha HS80's are excellent monitors. Even more so because of the price. That mod looks cool too.

And referring to your earlier post, yes, the KRK's and Dynaudio's are quite different sounding. I think, ideally, you would have monitors from both the different sounding "families". That is a very broad term, though.

If you don't like them then you don't like them. People make great music with both.

Go for the Dynaudio's. They are highly regarded.

Oh, I recently picked up a pair of KRK V6's used for R3k, for home use. I've been reading that they're supposedly better than the newer VXT's (supposedly better construction, more detailed). Will have to do a comparison. I'm very pleased.

dont get me wrong the VXT6 are very nice and I would be happy to take a pair.... but when it comes to spending over 8k, for monitors I would refine my choice alot more and the vxt's would move to 3rd or 4th on the list.

If i could pick up a cheapish used pair of KRK's i would go for it for sure to save cash and purchase anxiety! ?

I saw that too... I think that the VXT8's are perhaps a little too large for my tastes... my room is quite small so i think an 8 inch woofer is gonna cause me more problems than not...? I will consider it tho...

So shit, it seems I am gonna be unable to test out the Dynaudios... I spoke to ProSound and they said that they only order from overseas if you have made a purchase, so it will have to be blind which perhaps I'm not too keen about....
and plus the next shipment is only in 4-6 weeks and I'm in a bit of a rutt because I have NO monitors at the moment and i have to do a lot of work in terms of mixing a project and various other projects within that time, so i cannot go 6 weeks more without monitors...

So I'm thinking, I'm gonna do another couple hours of research then, tomorrow I have to by a pair that I can work with for a few months until I make a proper decision...\

So I'm either just gonna get a set of Rokit5's like i used to have... Or (prob better choice, the rokits were meh for mixing but sound awesome) I'm gonna just buy a pair of Yamaha HS50m

OR... perhaps i will do a silly thing and just order a pair of Focal CMS50 and be broke for the next couple months and perhaps save to get a SUB later on...
(The CMS65 are just too much...)

Those VXT8's are going for a good price, so you could buy them and then spend the rest of the money that you were going to on the Dynaudio's on treating your room (or even more if it is already treated a bit). Bass traps etc. Would work well.

If you're going to buy some just for now then I would rather go for HS80's. I think you might be surprised and actually keep them. They are great.

To be completely honest, I would rather have, for example, HS80's and a set of 5" monitors (so two reference pairs) than one high-end pair of monitors. It's all about translation. As much as the high-end pair would sound "transparent" "clear" and "revealing" according to some people, in the real world it is all about how it translates to the consumer. Having two sets of monitors with different sized cones can only be beneficial. Especially if you buy two sets from different sounding families.

Yeah man that is actually exactly what I have been thinking...

So i might get a pair of say HS50s just for now, so that i can actually do something decent, then perhaps get used to mixing on them, and then saving up to buy a pair of larger "high end" monitors later in the year which will be my awesome sounding production monitors and then always have the HS50's as a good reference set...

I have checked out that site before yes... Im pretty sure all those prices on the monitors there are per speaker.... Damn but those dynaudios look sexy hey!

Im also mildly interested in those tannoy reveals they look cool and have had some fair reviews... anyone had experience with them??

The Tannoy Reveals are nice! Lower price bracket too. I looked at them before I found the deal for my V6's.

So what im thinking is that im gonna get the HS50's today, and then I might get the VXT8 as well, so i have an awesome big bass banger and reference mix tool...

My room is not huge at 4x3m, im worried that an 8 inch might be a bit overkill, will bass frequencies become more of a problem??

So i went in to get the HS50's and then I AB'd them against the Yamaha MSP5 and the MSP5 sounded way clearer to me and actually had some bass response... and bonus they were only a bit more than the HS50's... so it was a no brainer...

Did a mix session last night and it was interesting, they will take a bit of getting used to, but i reckon they are fantastic reference monitors.

Im still gassing for a high end pair later on in the year..., but i reckon i will prob end up keeping these as a B reference monitors... as i reckon them to be good mixing tool once i learn how to use them! ?

The MSP's are nice. Thought they were being discontinued, so that's why I didn't suggest them.

So... I got some unexpected money in and I'm feeling super slutty so I have ordered a pair of these:

The CMS50... I really just wanted only one high(ish)-end pair of monitors that i can get to trust and that also sound great and these seemed to fit the bill. I did a listening test of the tiny CMS40 series on saturday and was incredibly impressed by the clarity, depth and bass response of that tiny monitor.
I can only imagine the CMS50 will be a step-up in that regard! the CMS65 are just way out of budget so I have ordered the CMS50 and will spend the next year or so saving up to get the beautiful matching sub! (this could even expand itself into a 5.1 system in the future 8))

Its a pity about the Yammies, they are really great and half the price, but I have a slight addiction and problem with gear when i always feel i could have better without really giving it a chance. Shame on me :?

So anyone keen then on taking over the brand new pair of Yamaha MSP5's please PM me i will give you a great deal and I have no doubt that they are a great and accurate system!
