I reckon it should be a tie between this and Sabbath's first album, with Priest's "Screaming For Vengeance" a close second, but that's just me ?

I voted for number of the beast as it has the best ever metal song on it imho being hallowed by thy name.

priest's stained glass is absolutely brilliant too though

1) Number of the beast is pretty much the best...also have a look for the documentary flight 666, amazing video of the tour.

My personal favorites for other reasons are Powerslave and Seventh Son

Its great that Maiden won, instead of bands like Oasis and Coldplay. ? ?

Personally, Piece of Mind is my favourite, then Powerslave. although lately I've been preferring the first two albums with Di'Anno on vocals, very punky and raw! ?

The first album with Nicko McBrain on drums - he's so much better than the first drummer. After Powerslave they seemed to disappear up their own collective backside (they were verging on it for Powerslave - Rime of the Ancient Mariner, but Flash of the Blade and Big 'Orra saved it).

Listened to first four tracks.

Sounding like a lot of Priest Influence so far

Squonk, Powerslave probably the best, but get some new era stuff. After Blaze Bayley left and Dickinson returned along with Adrian Smith. The guitarists Murray and Gers remained in the band giving them the pretty unique status of having three of them, my fave from this line up was "A matter of life and death" Brill!

Lol you nailed it.

Production on NOTB sounds a little dated now. But no doubt NOTB, Piece of Mind and Powerslave pretty much define Iron Maiden. And Matter of Life and Death was a late breaking suprise, what an excellent album too.
