VintageG and Dextortion in one box
I can now officially chip in on this thread! Yay!
Got myself a Dual Drive (with the Vintage G cascading into the Dextortion).
First the setup - Squire Tele -> TC Polytune -> Morley Vol/Wah -> Dual Drive -> Genz Benz 60/30 clean channel (2x6L6) with Strymon Ola Chorus & Digitech timebender in the loop.
Initial response to the pedal (after only having played it briefly last night):
Vintage G (green side) All controls @ noon - Punchy, articulate and warm in the highs with a little bit of looseness in the bass. Really stunning overdrive!
Dextortion (red side) Tone & Level @ noon, Drive @ 9 - Creamy with a very smooth singing quality. Sustain for days (i did not have the delay on).
Both sides together (all controls as above) - Take the above two descriptions and add them up. Phenomenally inspirational pedal! Held notes had a lovely blooming quality to them and tended to ever so slightly start feeding back.
At the expense of sounding jaded, I think i've found what i've been looking for. More updates to follow - Nicholas L and i are planning a bit of a review.
Footnote - The builder (Craig Amp aka bottledtone) was an absolute pleasure to work with.
Two points I want to pick up on here....
1) "...I think I have found what I've been looking for..."
It is most definately true in my case. I have a Mesa Boogie MKIV and
a Marshall TSL122 at my disposal, (both 3 channel beauties) but I prefer
the sound out of the two craig pedals using the clean channel of the TSL122.
2) "...tended to ... start feeding back..."
My two pedals generate feedback effortlessly...something I have always
had to coax out of other gear. Feedback is something I love to use and it
is so
available through these particular pedals.
I play a Gibson ES335 which, as you know, has great resonance at volume
by nature, so I think I just got lucky linking it all together.
