Clearly it can be done. With a bigsby the stress would be more lateral than vertical, and you can see that in this case the bigsby is anchored to the tail block.

http://www.bigsby.com/vibe/resources/faqs/. But note "designed for large acoustic and arch top guitars". I'd think you'd need a big ass jumbo style guitar (as Adams is playing) to make this work. You'd run out of room on, say, an OM.
