Storm Under Control Song Review - song and recording quality

Hi guys, we recorded this song by ourselves.

It's not perfect yet, nor complete, but I still want your feedback on where we can improve.

The vocals needs a retake (recorded these with bad monitoring). I also want advice on how to get the vocals to sit in the mix better - as well as anything else you feel the need to say ?

well for starters, the cello is a bit predictable in the intro.

I really like the piano arrangement. I'm not a fan of that drum beat.

Otherwise that has load s of potential. please, for my sanity's sake, try steer it away from the evanescence vibe...

I found that everything wasn't quite as tight as it could be in a few places, felt like it was the piano mostly.
What I hear in there is a staccato string section at some point, I think it will fill it up a bit. Maybe from 0:57/0:58 or 1:30.
Vocal sounds a bit "nasely", but cool energy, especially at the end I thought. I found the vocal believable - if that makes sense :? ?.

I tend to agree, I think a nice big open type drum beat would work well - but I'm biased, it's my favourite ?

I think this would be cool on a soundtrack... (hope that's a good thing for you, it is for me ? )

Well done on the recording, this is something I'll hopefully be delving into with the band very soon too, so will also be soliciting some advice probably! So take all the above with a pinch of salt ?

I would put les reverb on the vocals and turn it up, it seems a bit drowned. Good voice though.

The drums were by me, and I'm faaar from a drummer ?

And what type of drumming do you recommend?

my 2c worth, there is too much reverb, try removing it completely and then just add a bit to the piano (only if it needs it) and maybe a touch to the vocals, its very easy to overuse reverb and that sinks everything into the background. I also agree with Donovan on the "Evanescence" groove. Your drums are a bit too busy in places for the style of the song, and could possibly come in earlier in the track.
overall, a great track, well done.

Thanks for the compliments and feedback. I'll try and sort some stuff out.

I honestly didn't expect it to turn out as it did since I've only been playing piano for about a month here.

Definitely a good track. its ooozing with potential.

Some concerns: Too much reverb in general, it makes everything mush together, it didn't sound like the instruments had their own unique place to shine. They where just kinda all over. Also, this is for the singer, she has a brilliant voice, but she must try articulate her words more clearer, I battled to hear the lyrics. Drums more open, so in other words, more tom work (floor tom might work wonders), but also, drums where mixed quite low. Bring them out a bit more.

But I liked the song. Would listen to it again!
