I also want to know, which fretwire
ON THIS PAGE is best for electric guitar and which is best for acoustic guitar. I suppose the standard is Medium/High for electric guitars.
The size of the fretwire depends on your personal tastes, usually. If you're doing your first refret I personally would go for a TALL wire though so that you have more material to work with when levelling. Without loads of practice you will probably need to take more off the tops to get everything perfectly level than an experienced luthier would. Also, they should last longer as you will be able to level them more times as they wear before they get too low and you have to pull them and replace them again. But then if you're not comforatble with tall fretwire, get smaller.
When you play, do you use a very light touch or do you press down pretty hard? If you are quite heavy-handed your fretted notes will usually be sharp with big frets and those frets will feel like huge speedbumps when doing slides. Personally I've found that big frets have helped me learn to play faster because I was forced to use a light touch and as a result I was expending less energy fretting each note and could move around much quicker.
WIDER fretwire also lasts longer but you need to make sure that they are always properly crowned or your intonation will be a little off.
Again, it's all down to personal taste ?
