As always we'd need to know the budget? If you say what you'd like to pay and what you could pay on a stretch it will help. Cause if the difference between say a R800 would-like-to-pay guitar and a R1200 can-stretch-to-pay guitar is great then we'd probably end up recommending the R1200 guitar, i mean, the R400 could mean the difference between a guitar that you out-grow in 4 months and a guitar that keeps you going for 2 year before you want to upgrade, which could potentially save you money...
I'd recommend looking for a second hand guitar though, seriously, you can get a better quality guitar for the same budget, same with amps...
If you look around on the forum and gumtree often you find an old squire thats been upgraded with new pickups and hardware and things which will be at the same price or even cheaper than a stock standard guitar brand new...

I've seen many a beginner pack at a few stores.
Coastal Music in Durban North, Marshall Music up in Hillcrest, Glenwood Village music in Glenwood (duh :? ) there are also the Pavilion ad gateway music stores but I reckon the first 3 stock better known brands IMO.
Where about in Durban are you?
