Kalcium Hi Guys, A friend of mine if looking for a left hand guitar with a budget of R1600, im guessing he'd prefer something with humbuckers or an HSS strat but at this point it seems like he'll have to take what he can get. I've phoned our local Bothners (GVM) and TOMS (Coastal Music) as well as Marshall Music Hillcrest and some other local shops and even when they get back to me about what their suppliers have in stock all I've managed to come up with is a Santa Fe for R1100...which I don't think he should bother with... I took a look on takealot.com and found an SX starter pack with a sss strat style guitar + amp etc for R2050 which is a bit over budget but it does come with an amp and tuner and things that he will need, so i think its a good deal... But I was wondering if anyone else knows of a second hand lefty guitar or where I can get a brand new lefty guitar for under R2000 that is decent? I think the guy really only wants to spend R1000 but can stretch to R1600 and maaaaaaaybe stretch to R2000 so around R1000 would be great, honestly even a bullet strat is probably fine. Maybe Im wrong but I think a new bullet (they use alder now I think?) will probably be better than a santa fe or groovin'...
Kalcium Donovan Banks wrote go the hendrix route... Thats pretty much what I was thinking too...but I dunno how keen he'll be...
Bob-Dubery Kalcium wrote Donovan Banks wrote go the hendrix route... Thats pretty much what I was thinking too...but I dunno how keen he'll be... It's an option. You'll need a new nut to be cut, and a setup, so find out how much that will cost.
IceCreamMan keep an eye on the classified and post a wanted ad too on gumtree...now an again some decent guitars come up but you have to be patient . i would not go the hendrix route immidiately , rather wait a bit ...once you have finished the mods you going to be over budget anyway.
Kalcium Well other than getting a new nut I can do the setup for him so its not a huge expense really and I should be able to move the strap button for him too but maybe a wanted ad on gumtree and some patience is the best idea for now, just wondering how long he will be willing to wait since he already had the birthday that hes getting it for...
DonovanB have you seen this? http://durban.gumtree.co.za/c-Sports-Leisure-musical-instruments-Left-Handed-epiphone-les-paul-Standerd-W0QQAdIdZ385336323
Kalcium Thanks Don, I'll let them know, but im not so sure how intent they are on getting something anymore or if they're gonna buy the first left hand guitar they can find but I will let them know about this and give it my recommendation haha ?
Alex-B-Broadway Apparently Rondo - the company that makes Agile and SX guitars - makes left handed models for all their guitars, so I think that's going to be one of the cheapest options.
lapdawg As a lefty I empathise. Some good v4m lefties i have seen in SA: Tokai, Italia, Vintage; Epiphone. Its always a lot harder finding LH. Some guitars that I really like just dont come in leftie. The other option: Learn RH. Mark Knopfler is leftie & plays right. I should have done that. You could do a lot worse than the Epi on Gumtree. For the xtra few bucks you'll much more than double the quality of what you get. I suppose the real point is that the person who is looking has to do their own research and make their own conclusions. Rather take time, even save a few more bucks. Buying the guitar is just start of your expenses.... ask me.
