On importing: just keep in mind that, if it breaks, you might struggle to get the local support you'd want for a laptop machine...it's not like you can take it back to the store.
It might not be a big issue with the Mac stuff - Apparently they have to honour international warrenty claims locally (if the warrenty is still valid). This is a source of a bit of a grumble with me though - you cannot get a extended warrenty in SA...but buy your Macbook elsewhere, tick the three year warrenty option...and then they have to honour it locally. This is from the techs at the Apple store(s) local in Slaapstad.
imho, 9K for a 13in Macbook Pro is a damn fine deal (usually R12999?) and with a Sandy Bridge chipset it's actually worth it :? But the new Ivy bridge stuff is now coming out, is it worth the extra? Not enough to make me wait for the prices to drop on Ivy bridge, I've been waiting 6mths for the sandy bridge based laptop's to hit the demo market at reasonable prices - there is a demo 14in Dell Latitude out there with my name on it...(somewhere)
