Marshall AVT 2000 50w combo

I've had my MArshall AVT 2000 50w combo for about 10 years. I have a love hate relationship with this amp. Except fot the fact that it weighs a ton, makes a bit of noise and is well used, I always thought it had a pretty decent sound. I went online and searched some info about it and I found that people are saying horrible things about my amp. Such as; it sounds crap, burning it is the only satisfaction you will get from this etc...

Has anyone else ever had a bad experience with an AVT?

I've been thinking of getting a smaller amp since I don't go out gigging any more and my style has calmed down from 90's grunge to more bluesy stuff. The Laney Cub12R seems to be the biggest contender. But now...

Will the Laney be loud enough if I play with a drummer/full band/on stage?

Is the Laney as good Quality as a MArshall?

Is it worth trading in my old friend for something smaller with all valves?

Will I kick myself in the ass a few years from now?

Whats your opinions on the AVT, Cub12 and the whole idea of going smaller?

I have the AVT 2000 , 275 (and a JVM 210 single stack) and I love it!

Why do you give a rats behind what people say ...... if you like it, that's it!! Normally jealousy makes people become nasty .... ?

Laneys are good AFAIK, but I've never owned one, so I cannot (will not) comment .... I love Marshalls ..... but there are lots of people who don't!

I'm busy looking at amps all over the place currently, and I find reviewers are particularly over critical about amps more often than not. Some people will will slam an amp because it doesn't sound EXACTLY the same as an amp that costs triple the price. A recurring theme in the reviews I keep seeing people say, "I'm going to rather save up a few extra 4 to 5 hundred dollars to buy something decent.". This is when they are reviewing an amp that retails for $400-$500 in the first place. That's like complaining that your Polo doesn't perform like a Porsche. Go figure.

I normally take any reviews with a HUGE pinch of salt. If you're happy with your amp, then leave it at that. Or watch a few youtube vids of any replacement amp reviews. Those are pretty cool as they show the amp in action.

I bought my AVT50 in 2005, tested a couple of amps and I tought that it was the best sounding amp in my price range, and my price range was a bit more than the 50, I was actualy planing on buying the 100, but after compairing the 2, I went with the 50. A couple of years later, the church that I was going to wanted to buy a new guitar amp and asked me what I thought would be a good one. I immediatly got quotes for a new AVT50, and soon afterwards bought one for the church. The "new" AVT looked different and sounded different! I ever did a A/B test with my AVT, the new one sucked!
If the AVT critics want to burn the model that I bought for our church, I'll supply the petrol!

I had the 275 a while back, was my first "proper" amp.
I found it never quite cut through in a band situation well enough, also it was really heavy!
It had a pretty nice clean sound though iirc.

Take this with a pinch of salt tho, since back then I didn't have much of a frame of reference - I'm only slightly better off now ?

I don't think you'll regret trading up to a full valve though, especially if you in the blues area. I think Cannon had and gigged one of the cubs and he's quite a bluesman!

Thanks, I read somewhere that the AVT before 2000 was super awesome, then In the year 2000 they made the limited AVT2000 series (the one I have) that rocks, but soon after they made a new one. I think this is the silver one with the flag on the grill. This is the one that apparently sucks. so lots of people hear the new one and think they all suck. This gave me peace of mind. At least I know I havent been tone deaf for 12 years. I'm really considering just getting my amp a proper service. I know nothing about valves (except that they rock). So this poor girls valve must be muff by now. I think there is something wrong with the fan too, I tried q20 on it but it only helped for a few seconds. How much do you guys think this would cost?
