Warren Haynes, Vibrato, Bending....

I happened to stumble upon a Hot Licks tutorial with Warren Haynes on Electric Blues and Slide Playing.

The point that Warren is putting across in this video, is not what you are saying but how you say it!

So he focuses on Vibrato, Bending and quite a minimal approach e.g. which notes to leave out rather than which notes to play. Amazing how a few simple notes of a blues scale sound so good when you use this approach.

These are just two techniques that I am working on, Vibrato and Bending and this Video is good stuff.

He also uses his fingers quite a bit, and there seems to be quite an art to combining a plectrum and fingers. It's not Hybrid picking, it goes way beyond that.

The only gap in all of this is that I don't have a LP! Warren uses a Gibson LP and a brief clip of him playing a very sexy PRS.

I've seen that vid. Warren Haynes is the real deal for sure. Blues has always been this. The modern thing of judging blues guitar players by fast, fancy, runs has taken away from, rather than added to blues IMO. All the great blues players besides Gary Moore (and Jimmy Page, if you include him), relied on note choice, phrasing, touch, and vibrato to make the hair stand on end. Not high-speed shenanigans.

From Elric Clappedouts Crossroads 2010 concert.

Not a bad wee backing band he has there either.

I think that Trucks Tedeschi Band bass player is one of the happiest musicians I have ever watched.
All through the set he plays you can see how much he is simply loving playing that bass guitar.

Can you imagine how talented Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi's kids are going to be when they grow up!!!

Yeah, definitely. After Getting into Gov't Mule, TTB and the Allman Brothers my footswitch is back in it's box. Just use the one channel now.
