Right having read this post as well as the one on the Les Paul Forum a few times over the last few weeks I think have finally worked this saga out.
Les Paul’s sunburst was owned by this oke Higgs Boson who lives in that centre of the Universe of vintage guitar collectors, Krugersdorp, pronounced Kreersdorp!!!!! Braam, who is a used car salesmen :-\, tries to sell Mr Bosons guitar to this Yank called Clay, who it would appear didn’t change his name to Muhammad Ali a few years ago as I thought, for the princely sum of $100 000.00 which because of rampant inflation, the Euro crisis and the Toll Gate/Julias Malema fiasco dwindles to $45 000.00 at the drop of a sharkfin plectrum. Anyway its all going swimmingly until these two Italian brothers Caveat get involved, the elder boetie Emptor and the younger one Enditor throw a Spaniard in the works and through a wicked twist of fate the guitar ends up Graceland. (On a side note it has been speculated for some time that Elvis is not dead but living with Marilyn Monroe ? in the Krugersdorp/Hillcrest area, the plot thickens!!!). The guitar then magically appears in Germany at a later stage at a price that is sufficient to bail Greece out of its economic woes. Keep an eye on Europe guys, first the Germans take the Les Pauls, next it’ll be Poland and the Low Countries!!!!!!! >☹
Spielberg hears of this and wants to make a movie out of it but can’t get the only guy with a proper Saaf Effriken accent Leonardo Di Caprio to play Braam!!! Instead its going to be a mini series on SABC with Steve Hofmeyer playing the part of the guitar and Pieter Dirk Uys playing Marilyn Monroe!!!! :'(
Well luckily for me I still have my 1959 Sunburst “Beano” Les Paul under the bed. My Dad borrowed it from some guy called Eric who was reading a comic at the time and Eric didn’t ask for it back. Possession being nine tenths of the law my Dad reckoned Eric could have the one tenth of the guitar back if he asked for it. Luckily my Old Man being a bit of a guitar connoisseur upgraded the guitar to increase its value. He installed robot tuners, a locking Floyd Rose, active EMG pickups, medium jumbo stainless steel frets, a Tone Pro’s bridge and strap locks.
I’ll bet its worth a lot more than those bog standard 59 bursts now!!!!!!!
