Just remember to either take your amp or use one like it. Multifx don't always agree with the amp...

+1. Great unit. Good price. Good step up from what you have been using without getting too complex and having unneccesary stuff like amp modelling.

A solid +1 For TCE Nova system. Would be my first choice if in your position. You would need a separate expression pedal, though.

For an inexpensive basic setup I've been able to get great tones from a Boss ME-70 into a good clean amp... Downside is shuffling through banks is a pain without adding dedicated bank pedals and the pedals are very close to each other which could be a problem on stage. If you only use 4 patches in 1 bank, it's a great option. Very simple to use and set up...

If you're pedantic about tuning, I'd look no further than a Korg Pitchblack Plus... 10X more accurate than the already great Pitchblack standard unit and it conveniently doubles as a guitar AB switching pedal.

Norm, unfortunately as I was about to go out and start sampling new units, a major crisis hit me on a personal level. So just about all the money I had, had to be used on something else...not to be elaborated upon here...all I can say is 14 years down the drain. Anyway, I'm buying my buddy Nigel's rackmounted POD with a footswitch at the end of this month. I have used that thing on a lot of jingles and recordings and know it backwards, so it should be a doddle getting a good tone.

One of the original (V2) ones? They're great - I played one for a few years quite happily and they actually hold their own tonally against all the newer ones aside from the latest HD model. Congrats!

Yippo! The original rack unit that came after the 1st kidney PODs. It's fantastic. What I like most is that you switch between studio and live mode. In live mode it sends you 2 signals out. One signal is un-processed (no amp-modelling) so you gooi it through your amp and mic it up. The other (stereo if you want) is processed so you send it straight to the desk. This means I can have 2 different tones going at the same time. The trick is going to be finding the right balance between the tones and the snag is you can only get a true reflection when playing live and loud. Guess I'm gonna be tweaking tone at the next few gigs then...

I've just managed to organize a zoom multi fx pedal for myself, it's an old cheapie (505ii) but I have read that people have managed to get decent enough sound out of them to gig with, just waiting for it to arrive from a mate that's sending it down. Any thoughts on 'em?

Yeah - those are good. The effect capabilities are limited, but the amp and speaker sims are good.

I've not used 'em much, and the little I have used them, they didn't blow me away sound quality-wise. But I do believe that you can get anything to sound decent if you spend enough time with it learning how to tweak it so it works.

The reason many guys end up slamming multieffect units (even the better ones) is they expect them to sound good out of the box with the presets (which are usually designed to show the capabilities of the unit rather than be the kind of thing you'd actually use in a band situation).

My freshly retired Zoom 707 has served me well. I have used it live for the last 10 years. In that time I've owned a Marshall JCM900, Mesa Boogie .50 Mini Stack, Fender Twin, Marshall Valvestate S80, Marshall DFX100 and an Albion TCT 50. The Zoom was used with all those amps and it always sounded good. Hell, I even used it through a 1200 watt Trace-Elliot bass rig at one stage and it still sounded good. They might be concidered el-cheapo by some, but trust me, that little plastic box of mine paid for itself a thousand times over and if I get the time I am gonna mount it on a piece of wood and attach a brass plate as a tribute..

Awesome, can't wait to get my hands on it now, I just stumbled onto a few tribute sites with literally hundreds of user created patches and what they are supposed to sound like, looks like I'm going to be busy for quite a while messing around with it.
