That Zoom G3 look like a good bet. Tuner plus you can choose 3 effects, and it looks like 3 pedals, with 3 control knobs for each effect

I didn't say that the Axe-FX is better, but most people regard it as better. The price also pays a part in it. The rack setup is certainly more complicated for a live setup. The POD HD's are great units, no doubt.

Arno, the Line 6 M9 can be had for R4400. I know that it's above your budget, but I do think that it is worth it. If not, the Zoom G3 offers good value for money, albeit at a lower quality. I've tried both units, and I own an M9 which is on my pedalboard.

I think TC Electronic are just about the last ones left who don't include amp/speaker modelling. But they are a different price bracket.

I haven't tried one, but something else to look at would be the Digitech RP355.

So to sum up... in the price range you're looking at the following pedals:
Boss ME-25
Fender Mustang Floor (depending on price when they get here)
Line 6 HD300
Digitech RP355
Vox ToneLab ST
Zoom G3/G2Nu

From that list, the Fender or Vox would probably be my choice.

Plus because of the latest and greatest coming in now, you should be able to pick up a lot of the older models for really good prices. Especially as you don't care about the modelling side, that gives you quite a lot of choice. Something like a Boss GT-8 is a seriously capable effects machine, built like a bomb and can be picked up for silly prices.

Arno, i have line 6 M9, u welcome to mess aorund with it , but u would need an expression pedal too. yes they are more than 3k but its simple and effectively offers you a stompbox set up in one case. No amp sims here but does have a buiklt in tuner ?

Another box of tricks you might consider is the Digitech RP90 or RP155. Seeing as you have a set up with only 4 tones these devices with less features might be whats needed and they cheap you can buy 2 for 3k. Have an expression peda/WAH built in too. These have built in tuners too and use the same chip as the more illustrious RP500 etc...

having said that 2k for a HD300 is a great price.

for R800-00 ...sounds ridiculously cheap ...so beware but for 800 its a steal ...

Let me play devils advocate here and ask why you want to upgrade cos i know you a pro muso doing nice gigs , and you said yourself in op , you played over 1500 gigs on this , so that unit on paper may be out of date but if you doing top gigs with it and you must have a good sound or the bands you work for wouldn't use you , so i say don't fix what aint broke , get another 1000 gigs out of it, avoid the gas trap

Well, the Zoom is falling apart. It's held together by duct tape and toothpicks, so mainly before it totally disintigrates, I need to replace it. Granted, I do have the tone down, I get positive comments quite often, but I am sure I'll get a good tone out of whatever I decide to go with. A 2nd hand Boss GT-8 suddenly looks good to me. I remember those - bulletproof.

Ok. Thanks for all the advice. Verdict: Going to Music Connection to test everything between R3k-R5k. With a "regular customer"-discount, I could hopefully set my sights a bit higher and still come out within my budget. Gonna be a long day. Brace yourselves music shop sales dudes - have Strat, will make lawaai.

Just remember to either take your amp or use one like it. Multifx don't always agree with the amp...

+1. Great unit. Good price. Good step up from what you have been using without getting too complex and having unneccesary stuff like amp modelling.

A solid +1 For TCE Nova system. Would be my first choice if in your position. You would need a separate expression pedal, though.

For an inexpensive basic setup I've been able to get great tones from a Boss ME-70 into a good clean amp... Downside is shuffling through banks is a pain without adding dedicated bank pedals and the pedals are very close to each other which could be a problem on stage. If you only use 4 patches in 1 bank, it's a great option. Very simple to use and set up...

If you're pedantic about tuning, I'd look no further than a Korg Pitchblack Plus... 10X more accurate than the already great Pitchblack standard unit and it conveniently doubles as a guitar AB switching pedal.
