Recording for practice purposes
RobbieZ
I just browed through the recording topic, but did not see what I was looking for. I need to be able to record myself while practicing. I was thinking of a digital recorder that can record up to 10 minutes and then can be downloaded.
I do have a laptop and an iPad. Currently I use the iPad, but the recording is not as clear as I would like it to be. Will an external mic fix this?

Line6 builds a digital recorder that may be able to do what you want. Check out

The ipad topic has been around two or three times even. There's two different kits on the market (iRig, Ampkit and others coming onto the market later) that improve the pad's ability to record plugged guitar. You can even make those yourself apparently. Do a forum search for ipad and you'll find.
The next step down the same line is to play a backing track while recording yourself filling in the missing guitar part. I don't know if the Ipad software is good for that, but I guess it should be able to. Some forumites, like yours truly, use a Boss micro studio thingy for that. The downside is that you are looking at spending around 2k5 for a second hand unit - check the classifieds.
