Delay's

I am looking to buy a delay and was first taken by the TC Electronic Flashback, but then I came across the Pro Guitar Shop version, the ''Alter Ego.''
The main selling point for me is the Echorec setting (Im a Gilmour fan.) Unfortunately they are out of stock and may only have a new batch in August if they commission a new batch. The only other pedal that does an Echorec emulation is the Line 6 M5 but I am a little skeptical of Line 6 after two people I know have had problems with switches and sound in general. Are there any other pedals I should have a look at?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Line 6 (Echo Park) been fine for me.

I wouldn't regard the Binson simulation as a deal-breaker. The unique things about the Binsons over tape machines were a better high end, a reduced low end and no wow and flutter. A digital delay with a bit of a bass cut and treble cut will get you 99% there.

Haven't tried the flashback myself, but keen to upgrade from the Line 6 Echo Park that I have. Not a terrible pedal, but the sound isn't exactly what I want, and it's a bit overly complex

I have recently purchased both the M5 and the Flashback. Not gigged with the Flashback yet and have only had a couple of gigs with the M5 so still getting used to both. I am happy with both purchases and certainly prefer the M5 delays to the DL4 that I sold.

I think it depends on how much you use delay and how much a part of your sound it is. If I was a mega delay man then I would probably have spent much more on a delay pedal but for my purposes both thre M5 and Flashback are more than good enough, I got the flashback because I like the idea of having a dedicated delay pedal and this also then frees up the M5 for other things!

Will have to check out the Echorec setting on M5 tho! Actually everyone should have an M5, it is such a playful gadget for guitarists and a great asset to a pedalboard (even though preset access is a bit fiddly).

I have always loved the idea of multi-effects but my experience with them has never been that great I own an Me-25 and its sounds okay but not great.
I am trying to decide whether I should go for a better Multi-effect pedal or individual compact pedals. The M5 seems like a good mix of the two.

I wouldn't build my pedals around the M5, for me it was about real estate and alone replaced a tuner, DL4, chorus and flanger. It's like a swiss army knife for guitarists and sounds good too. Remember you can only use 1 effect at a time which means it is not like normal muliFX unit or the larger M9 or M13.

I prefer pedals over multiFX as they just sound more organic. Obviously lots more wires and can be fiddly but a pedal board usually solves this.

Beware though as Pedal fever can bite and once it does there is no turning back..........
