Yip...it surely qualifies albeit with a lot of (Les Paul) guitar gymnastics ? which was usually absent from the earlier r'nroll stuff.

I'm no musicologist, but it seems to me that there was a lot of piano in early R 'n R. And, yes, when there were guitar solos they were a bit shorter. Guitar heroes hadn't been invented when Little Richard wrote that song.

For me it's rock 'n roll in another sense too - the electricity, the thrill, the energy of it. Rock 'n roll was THRILLING.

In early R'nR the guitar player was always in the "background"...as you say the guitar hero had not been invented yet (good one)....
Piano and (double) bass and sax were the other weapons of choice.
For me the piano, as in most early Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis recordings, is just such an essential element in the whole band setup
