I'm no musicologist, but it seems to me that there was a lot of piano in early R 'n R. And, yes, when there were guitar solos they were a bit shorter. Guitar heroes hadn't been invented when Little Richard wrote that song.
For me it's rock 'n roll in another sense too - the electricity, the thrill, the energy of it. Rock 'n roll was THRILLING.
