Tech threads, being able to answer questions of other forumites makes me feel less of an old grumpy troll and more of a helpful nice guy. Feel being the operative word here :?

Totally depends. Your gear is usually fun. It's somehow very cool to see what other people have got going on and hear them talk about it. Just watched Lindsmuse's Bobby Mcferrin mind-blower on the off topic lounge (I think) which was too awesome. All depends.
I have to admit I find gear flame wars amusing. I don't deliberately instigate them (although I don't censor myself beyond obeying forum rules) but it's a reminder that the very public nature of the internet should encourage us to take a step back from taking this stuff too seriously. On the net it turns out there's no cow too sacred. The more I see stuff that used to drive me crazy, the less it does.
Still if you spend time on other guitar forums, you realise these flame-outs here are made more "serious" precisely because they're rare. On other forums this is an hourly occurrence. So GFSA is still a wonderfully friendly place and it's nice when n00bs come along with fresh interests.
