Yeah, for some reason there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of love for Tommy Emmanuel on this here GFSA forums but he still rocks my socks.

Some of the best, most powerful performances I've seen have been one guy on an acoustic guitar (in fact one was one guy and mostly a fiddle). "Rock", "potency", "power" whatever reside in the player and not in the instrument.

Dunno about that ? Most of the acoustic dudes on here (I'd include myself in that, to some extent) are pretty big fans.

OK, maybe a sweeping statement like that isn't exactly accurate but I've read a fair amount of criticism on Tommy Emmanuel on the forums here when I thought "jeppers that was mind blowing". I think the crit was mostly along the lines of "he's just another fretboard wanker, only he has an acoustic guitar". In a way it might be true but I do think he has a great deal of "feeling" that goes into his songs on top of the great deal of technique.
