If a repaired and refinished '59 costs 250k I shudder to think what one would pay for a "near mint" one.

This. I don't think he'll get his asking price. Not with the headstock repair and the heavy road wear. They're kinda pumping his career, but I don't think that horse has legs. A "super star" guitar player that none of us have ever heard of? Curious new definition.

I'm thinking more like $120K

A near mint '59 never owned by anyone famous would be around $450K at the moment, I reckon. P. Green/G. Moore's? About $900K. Jimmy Page or Billy Gibbons - I reckon about $1.5M. Guessing though. We won't know til these guys decide to give up the ghost.

Drool drool drool! That is the real deal. Pity that it would probably be bought by some IT hot shot and used as an ornament. That axe will never see the inside of a smokey bar room again and will never be played the way it was intended to again. It's a shame. I would love to wear that thing just for 1 night...classic plank.

Hugh's Fine Guitars, right here in the blessed and noble province of Gauteng, currently has two '60s and '57 gold top for sale. No need to fool around on e-bay and hope the couriers know what they're doing.

Amazing that there are so many to be found here. That one 1960 has the plainest top I've seen from that year. I still want that all-mahogany '57. It looks like a go-er.

I doubt that'll fetch the asking price.

Which doesn't mean I think it'll be what you'd call "cheap".

Gruhn's have two '60 LP standards for sale right now - priced at $135k and $150k.

Customs are much cheaper. I suppose they're less desirable somehow. Good Ol' George has 50s and 60s customs in the $25k to $38k range.

Guys selling these instruments and who know what they're doing will always detail cracks, repairs, cigarette burns etc.

Didn't the Green/Moore LP sell for $2M? That's a headstock repaired model too... It's difficult to find any LP without some work done to it by now.

And, I do know of J-Geils - bigger in the US and Japanese markets than here, but still a well-known "name".

Plus it's a nice looking example...

Nice looking specimen, looks like an old refin too. Headstock break doen't look too bad, at least someone didn't put a screw in there ? The price may be a bit ambitious, especially as the recession has had a big effect on the vintage market as well. It may be on Ebay for 250k, but often when these bursts pop up on Ebay they don't sell on ebay. The fees would be astronomical too. I think dealers use it as an advertising tool and conclude the deal privately. I don't care how much money you have, you don't buy one without checking it out first hand.
A cool example I saw of these guitars being gigged was a photo of Joe Bonamassa on a plane with his burst on the seat next to him. Sure a lot of these are in private collections, but from what I have seen on The LP forum, quite a few owners gig them. One member recently had the guys from Buckcherry over to try his bursts.
