OK. Enough Gibson-bashing for now - T & G Fans, please just accept that you won't change each other's minds and move on with your lives. Gibson QC has improved, but it's still not perfect judging from the examples I have seen recently (but no brand is). And the Gibson LPs are still a better investment in the long run.
They have been if you have already bought one a long time ago, not so sure this would be the case should one buy today. Guitar ownership and resale (investment) value become a bit murky .... if one were to buy equal cost guitars today ,one being a Gibson at 22k and one being a brand X at lets say 14k (before any negotiated discounts) ...you would end up with similar guitars in all respects except for the "premium" on pays for the Gibson.
Should u come to sell them in 5 years time u might take a bigger hit on the Gibson as you might have to struggle more to sell it ... and even taking a "store profit" margin hit yr "loss" on the gibson would be a lot more in financial terms than on brand X.
but in 50 years you may or may not be able to sell the gibson for 250 000 dollars ?
point is , one should never buy a new guitar with resale in mind because unless you buying a 1961 strat or 59 gibson you generally going to take a bath. a 30% bath on the illustrations above = 7k on the gibson and 4k on brand X , quite a difference
