I played some cheaper les paul "type" guitars today. Unplugged only, gives you a good idea of the nature of the guitar as pickups can always be swapped. Biggest annoyance was the feel of the necks, reminded me of a Samick LP copy I had. Thick binding and Huge frets are not my cup of tea. Overall, the two I liked best and felt best were PRS SE's, one in Cash crusaders and one in Bothners.
Unfortunately, the high end
PRS's start in the 20-30k range (edited).
If I can give you some advice, buy used. It immediately removes the financial knock you take on a new guitar. Certain brands take bigger knocks than others, so protect yourself. Surf gumtree daily.

Or wait for a flametop to pop up. Besides, nobody can force you to buy a guitar if it has flaws.
