Danele Hi guys, apologies if this has been covered already, i did a search and it didnt yield results.. so i was playing my palmer les paul (25.5" scale) tonight, then after that my mustang (24" scale). the string tension in VERY different on these 2 guitars. the mustang's strings feel like rubber bands. it still has the factory strings on it, i believe theyre 9s. dunno what gauge the LP has. now the question is: will changing them out to 10s make a noticeable difference in the tension? what else can i do to increase it to a more 25.5" full scale feel? thanks Dan
Gearhead In my humble opinion, the difference between Gibson 24.5"ish and Fender 25.5" scale feels like half the difference between 0.010 and 0.011 strings. You used to get 0.0095 and 0.0105 string sets, but I haven't seen those anywhere for quite a while.
MikeM Yes. Typically the longer the string, the tighter. Break angles come into play though and do complicate the matter a litte bit ?

AlanRatcliffe An .011 - 48 gauge set on a 24" is probably your best bet. If the nut won't take the .011s, it's just a few strokes of a nut file for each groove, so shouldn't cost much to sort out.
