Custom Craig amp build

So I have approached bottledtone to build an amp head for me. I thought I would start a thread to keep a record of the build. So, until recently, I was using 2 amps, a 100watt solid state Yamaha for my cleans, and the Vox AC4TV for my drive tones. I've sold both as I want a simpler solution...I also want a Craig amp ? So, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to have a 2 channel 15 watt amp where the drive channel could be attenuated. So channel 1 would have the full 15 watts, and channel 2 could be switched to 5 watts for lower volume drive tones. Bottledtone is working on some ideas to do this, but I was wondering if there were any thoughts out there about this?

singemonkey wrote The cabinet build looks great Sean! You know your stuff mate.

Edit: apologies. Craig's making the cab? It looks fantastic anyway. You'll have a wonderful amp there.

Yes, bottledtone (Craig Amps) is building it ?

Still waiting for one of the transformers to arrive, but in the meantime ? :

? So the cat's out the bag?!!!

I will start a build thread as soon as we start the build but I suspect it will start another debate about price vs Wattage... ?

So, the speakers are finally sorted.

First up is a lovely vintage Celestion Greenback G12M that I snapped up in the classifieds from Beeg (Huge thanks, and a pleasure to deal with ? ). Friend of mine is bringing it up from Cape Town next week.

Second is a Jenson P12Q. I tried to get a second hand one, but eventually had to settle for new.

Okay, so bottledtone has asked me if I want a mixed fx loop, where a portion of the dry signal is going around the fx. I'd like to hear some thoughts on this. Pro's and con's?

Gearhead

I'd say that depends on the effects you are going to use. Most effects units can mix the original signal back, in which case you can determine the mix amount from 0-100% per effect used. If you use effects that cannot mix themselves, it would be a useful option but also require dialing in. If you keep your GP-8 you will not need it.

Well the GP8 is fine, but who knows what I'll be using as time passes ?

Think of it this way: if you take the ability to mix in the incoming signal as a selection criterion, you're still left with 98% of all pedals in existence. Never mind the fancier multi-effects or rack units, they all can do.

So basically all pedals are doing this anyway? Taking part of the signal, adding the effect, and letting the rest passed unaffected? So if say a reverb effect is turned up a touch (10%) , the other 90% of the signal is dry? Is this how pedals are processing the signal?

Gearhead

Speaking under correction:
Reverb, delay: as per your post.
Drive: don't want the original signal anyway imho, maybe matter of taste.
Gate, compressor, flanger, wah, tremolo: don't want the original signal since it counteracts what you are trying to do.
Equaliser: probably going to run into phase issues when mixing back with the original signal.
Chorus: by nature uses the original signal, this is how it differs from a tremolo.
Octaver etc: the whole idea is to add harmonics to the original signal, otherwise you might as well play higher...
