Any other valve pedals i can go look at?
Manfred-Klose
I just did some research, it's not really a valve distortion pedal, the valves only warms up the sound, it basically works like any other distortion pedal with diodes and IC's.

Whoah Manny!!!!
That is one sick looking pedal..Didn;t know they make pedals... Haven't used this one, but I have the Rocktron Silver Dragon and DAMN!. I can go from a Dimebag to a Randy Rhoads and then back to a more classic rock BZZZ. IT's got two buttons, one for the valve distortion "Awake" and the other , when activated, called "Slayer" I think, that covers the valve dist with a solid state type of dist. Check it out if you can.
Manfred-Klose
thanks man, i'll go check it out.
I didn't know rocktron made pedals with valves in, i'm not a big fan of their products, but then again i could be wrong.
Is it smooth sounding or harsh?
P.s: i dont want to buy a valve pedal, just want to build up my pedal knowledge........ maby someday if i get one, i'll know what to get.
Explorerlover
Define smooth & harsh..
From my experience, and although it can give you a classic rock tone [smooth?], I use old trusty a.k.a. BOSS DS1 if I'm looking for a creamy/smooth OD to Dist. The Dragon is more for the hard rock to Metal player. There are soundclips at this location
http://www.rocktron.com/frameset1.html so you can get more or less an idea of what it sounds like.

Smooth - iron maiden,Zakk Wylde, john petrucci, metallica, and dimebag on the cowboys from hell album.........yeah basically if it goes smoothly on the ear.
Harsh[/u] - Dime(his more modern stuff), slayer, anthrax..........get the picture.
Does this pedal have lot of dynamics? enough to play instrumental stuff with?
I just had a listen to the sample, sucks that there is only one sample.
HAve recorded anything with it yet?
Explorerlover
All of the above...I just had a listen to the sample again aswell, and yeah...it's not really something that'll enable you to make up your mind.
What I'll try and do is record some settings on it and then post them. Can't promise that they'll be ready for tomorrow, but better late than never.
Guitarworld,GuitarOne & Guitarplayer magazines reviewed it and they seemed impressed, but ya, to each his own.
I'll try getting those recordings to you a.s.a.p.
Manfred-Klose
Cool thanks man.
I love the fact that all the knobs have really cool names, so its easy to understand for guitar players.
This way one can actually use your ear to tune the sound.
Explorerlover
Once....
Check out the user manual on the Rocktron website. That'll give you more of an idea of what each one does etc etc. Wanted to post it, but its just over the limit

I've had a look at the schematics and it would occur to me that they use the tubes for a whole lot more than just to "warm up the sound"; I would say >90% of the distortion in the lead channel comes from the second valve. Okok there's a couple of FET and even opamp stages, but if you overdrive those the sound will be awful, like what a fuzz pedal does. Come on man, it's Mesa, the inventors of high gain, the gurus of tube amp design!

Re: Mesa pedal ...
Cool unit, limited tonal applications - honestly isn't the same as playing through a real Mesa amp - and tend to be VERY expensive, even 2nd hand.
Also takes up a LOT of space on a pedal board and has a painful power supply depending where you get it from (current issues)
Depends what tone u want to use it for I suppose ...

Try the Ibanez Tube king aswell....bunch of samples on the website
