So which rocker wears the lowest slung guitar?

With my new love for clean sound, I've also picked up my a few notches on my guitar strap (only my ar 300 though) as it just feels more comfortable, my warlock and explorer still hang real low. SO it got me thinking...............what rockers wear their guits LOOOOOOOOW..........I was thinking Johnny Ramone. But I'm sure that there are more. I'm sure that there are some more punkers out there that are lower. I know slash is low sometimes as well as bass man Jon from devildriver. Anyone else?

Good quote there, pretty much sums it up.

For me it all depends what I'm playing, metal, rock tunes, down she goes as I can play faster and more accurate when the neck is closer to my body. The newly discovered clean channel side of me plays a tad higher and also with a guitar that I've only had for a few weeks.

What erm also erm made erm a diffs erm was erm when I had a boep.........was more comfortable playing with it below......now it's going going going, who knows..........lol.

Sometimes there's just no way around it...you gotta play high AND low!

I started with my guitars below belt level and over the years they've slowly crept up and up and up. Now that I've gotten heavily into Shred, I sometimes smack myself on the chin when I'm taking a guitar off. Took me a long time to decide between looking cool and playing accurately and comfortably though ?

The extra weight, due to the massive bridge, the long neck, the bulkier machine heads and the anchor cables they substitute for actual strings gives the instrument added weight, and that confers an unfair advantage in the strap stretching department. Plus it's no more a guitar than a double bass is a cello.

Although personally, I've yet to play any bass that's heavier than a Les Paul...just saying... ?

I blame Jimmy Page for all of this. Were people dangling their axes round their knees before him?

I also think that there's a bit of a joke to all of this. I think that the low/lower axe started out to alleviate RSI in the right elbow. Look, for example, at pictures of Keef. His guitar has got lower and lower over the years. As somebody who suffers with RSIs I can tell you that the lower guitar takes strain off of the elbow by straightening that joint - though there are other issues that arise from this posture, so it's a trade off.

So I think that sometime in the 70s all the veteran rockers had worn out their elbows and started dropping their guitars and then the next generation of rockers saw the low slung guitars and just decided that that's rock and freakin' roll, dude!!!! and imitated their heroes and so it's gone and now nobody knows why you actually want your axe down there but you do it because that's what you have to do.

My 2c is if you're tall you can probably have it lower because you have the arms and fingers to deal with the guitar that low, if you're shorter, keep it higher. Like James Hetfield and Kirk Hammet, Hammet has a medium height, Hetfield very low.
