I have raised some cash but do I buy some new pedals or put it towards

... a new guitar.

I love both guitars and pedals and have plenty of both (I count my blessings).

But I have raised some money and could buy 2/3 really nice new pedals OR I could put it down as a deposit on a new guitar?!

So I am thinking of a TC Electronic Nova Delay/Strymon Brigadier, Wampler Triple Wreck, Emma Reezafratzitz, Suhr Riot or do I put it towards a new guitar such as a Gibson Midtown, PRS Mira (in my overall budget of around £1000)?

What would you do?

I wouldn't buy a Nova delay, unless you need the presets. The Flashback is cheaper and pretty much as good!

I have the iB Modded Nova Delay, and was quite bummed to pay as much as I did when the Flashback is so powerful.

What guitars do you have? Is there a tonal ground that you need to cover that you currently can't?

I am a Fender guy and have mainly strats, a tele and an Ibanez Artist in my collection. So the obvious thing lacking is a Gibson! I originally wanted a Les Paul but have always liked the ES shaped guitars and like the concept of the new Midtown range. Then my other hat pushes me in getting a Hard Rock guitar like a Musicman Axis (2nd hand) or I have also always like the idea of the PRS Mira's (again with my price range of £1000 in mind). All of these cover different grounds to what I currently have. But it's kind of exciting as I could explore another type I hadn't previously considered!

On the Nova delay I am torn. I really want the Flashback but can pick up a Nova for only £30 more! So that has got my old head thinking! I have heard really good things about the iB which apparently is a real step up from the Nova delay! I figure the 'engine' in the Nova (both versions) is probably better than that of the Flashback but maybe you are right and there is not actually that much in it. (Not too bothered by presets as have M5 which can cover any specifics!).

But then the Strymon stuff is really impressive.....but can I justify that sort of money on a pedal.......arggh!

I would rather buy pedals cash than a guitar on credit... not very rock and roll, but there, I said it! ?

Does the nova not have more options with the delay though? at least, more subdivisions?!

I think a lot depends on your style of playing, how creative you want to be with new sounds and what type of music you're playing.
I went through a phase where I had lots of pedals then found some were not really used, then I went completely minimalistic and now use a delay and a wah-wah and the clean/dirty channels on my amp and thats it..
personally.,,,,,., i would put the money towards another guitar. :yup:

If I had to choose between a new guitar and pedals at the moment... I would so go for some recording gear ?

Sounds like you have money burning a hole in your pocket. Keep it to one side, it won't be long before something pops up that you MUST HAVE ?

Yep, I'm with these guys. Save it, and get the LP when you have enough money.

+1 - There's always something! Recently, I got a deal on some bits for my electronic drum kit, not planned expenditure, but it was a real good deal...

I'm over pedal GAS (viva guitar rig...viva!), although I do struggle to say no to a interesting guitar - Never owned a LP so I'd also be sorely tempted. Having said that, I'd probably get a partscaster and stick some kinman P-90's into it ?

Ahh Sean unfortunately I have 2 young kids and very rarely do I have any cash to myself so the reality is if I don't strike now then there will quickly be a 'kid related' expense that pops up and gone will the money be!

So I need to strike very quickly if I am going to get anything guitar related out of this tiny little surplus!!

Difficult decission.....however, Macaris on Charing Cross road London currently have a huge collection of Les Pauls and Anthony there is very keen to do business ? AND they have a nice range of pedals as well !
