I've been lusting after one of these for ages, got one last week at Tom's.

There were two on the wall, I took the one with the prettier matched body bits. ? It's an amazing sounding guitar, sounds great both clean and with a pile of distortion. ?

Just over 10k on the sticker, 8.5k "discount" and I think I got them down to about 7.6k.

Nicely made, DiMarzio pickups (Injectors and Area 67), very cool bridge. The original Paul Gilbert signature Fireman cost about $8k or so, so this one is a lot cheaper.

Chinese made, so I think it's important to see the actual guitar and buy based on what you've got in your hands.

Congrats! I really liked this when I ran across Paul Gilbert demoing it. The iceman and fireman are really different designs from Ibanez, and I prefer this one of the two. Hope you'll be taking it out for some exercise. ?

So, this was a love-affair that was destined to end abruptly, and sourly ☹

When I first took the guitar home and plugged in, there was a very loud buzz coming through the amp that simply wouldn't go away. Annoying, but feeling that these things do happen at times I took it back to Grant at TOMS to sort out. Grant said that none of the components were earthed (or something) and so he did some tinkering and all seemed well. Alas, getting home again and turning the amp up, turns out that the noise was less audible than before but still present, although now only when not touching the strings.

Took the guitar back again, voiced my displeasure and asked them to take a final look. Long story short: I decided to ask for my money back, since I really don't want so much hassle with a brand new guitar. Turns out that the other Fireman on the wall at the store exhibits the same behaviour. >☹

Credit to TOMS for doing what they could to sort me out, I imagine they just received a bad batch. Unfortunately the whole experience was soured for me: I hate new stuff that doesn't work properly. It's a real pity because the tone from those injector pickups is really great, it's quite a fun guitar to play and is something very different overall.

I might still send Ibanez a complaint. I doubt it'll make any kind of dent, but I always feel one should exercise the right to complain when unhappy with a product. Maybe I'll just make a post on the YouTube video of Gilbert showcasing the guitar, just for good measure.
