How thick are finishes?

I've been thinking about this for a while, along with the whole nitro debate.. Alan once mentioned the chap that finishes an LP top with a tot of lacquer, I've something similar about the folks at Historic Makeovers.

I remember pealing some paint off of my MIM tele, well off the top coat, revealing the sunburst underneath and it was probably 0.3mm, and that's not even including the paintjob underneath, or primer. Then there's the whole story of Fenders and Fullerplast.

Saw a pic posted by the Bvans guys which looks like there's nothing even there depthwise.

Anyone have some further findings on this?

My Logan Tele was refinished by NeonGecko (of BvanS) and it is an extremely thin finish, although one wouldn't say it on inspecting the guitar.

By "finish", do you mean anything coating the wood proper?

I re-worked an old Vester guitar a few months ago, and had to go through what I reckon was about 3mm of fibreglass and paint before I got down to the wood. Well, when I say wood, I mean the 0.1mm maple veneer they had coated the pine with... ?
