costafonix had to laugh when I looked through some of these pics,,, as the saying goes ,,,, "time waits for no man"... ? ? http://www.nme.com/photos/when-rock-stars-get-old/265167/1/1
Blues-Brother Looks like Brian is the only one who aged well :-\ The rest - Drug abuse and a case of bad plastic surgery I guess?
Hammeron Pity Jimi aint there.........and one way or the other it will happen to you, if you're lucky- getting old that is....
Hammeron There's a Rolling Stone lyric in 'Mothers little helper' that goes, if I'm not mistaken, -What a drag it is getting old.
strataxe Hammeron wrote There's a Rolling Stone lyric in 'Mothers little helper' that goes, if I'm not mistaken, -What a drag it is getting old. Correct, scary stuff, ... we're all going there...
vic There are a lot of benifits growing older...for example.... In a hostage situation you are likely to be released first. People call at 9 p.m. and ask, "Did I wake you?" There's nothing left to learn the hard way. Things you buy now won't wear out. You buy a compass for the dash of your car. You can live without sex, but not without your glasses. You enjoy hearing about other people's operations. You get into a heated argument about pension plans. You have a party and the neighbors don't even know it You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge. You quit trying to hold your stomach in, no matter who walks into the room. You talk about "good grass" and you're referring to someone's lawn. Your ears are hairier than your head. Your investment in insurance is finally beginning to pay off. Your secrets are safe with your friends because they can't remember them either. Your supply of brain cells is finally down to a manageable size. You have great friends who think of you often, and send you lists like this! ? Ex-airforce pilots John and Andy, both well into their 80's were sitting chatting in the bar when John asks "Andy ol' chap...when last did you have sex " ? "About 1945" says Andy. "Good lord but that's a long long time ago" says John."What do mean ?" says Andy...looking at his watch..."it's only 20.30 now !"
singemonkey Seriously cheap shots. Looks like NME trying to be relevant to the young by being unafraid to attack sacred cows. For 65% of those pictured, you should be so lucky if you turn out looking that good. The comments are not in line with what you'd think if you saw these folks in a restaurant and had no idea who they were. In two words reduced to an acronym: BS. Edit: Their basic argument. Wow! People who don't look as good at 65 as they did at 19 have seriously let themselves go/ ruined themselves with plastic surgery. Don't take financial advice from these writers, is all I can say.
costafonix i agree with all the comments above, nice to see some of the classic muso's like Tom Jones and Brian May, and The Stones still going strong. and if you can grow old doing what you love (i.e. playing music) then that's even cooler. :yup:
Hammeron Singe is absolutely correct of course. The 'old' pic of Ozzy particularly, is misleading. IMO Ozzy has aged incredibly well, he is, in fact, almost better looking today as he was 30 years ago, perhaps ironically.
strataxe Well, say they aged horribly and the look that as well. In another 50 years we'll still listen to their music. the new music coming out is just not comparable to the Rock era. All the other genres have come and gone.
